Personally I think Barracudamaio is right by the best beach in Maio. It is also in short proximity to the village of Morro. The village of Maio can easily be reached by communal taxi for some lunch and Minimercados. Breakfast, coffee and dinners were plenty and delicious. I can recommend staying here for those searching for peace and tranquility! I enjoyed taking one of their dogs for daily walks on the beach. I really enjoyed my time.

“The most incredible place to stay in Cape Verde!”

This was my second stay at Barracudamaio, which a testament to the warm hospitality from Mona and Christophe and the incredible space they have built on the beautiful island of Maio. They are the most accommodating and friendly hosts that you can possibly find! The beautiful location, clean and welcoming accommodation, adventurous activities and overall experience is truly one of a kind, and I am so grateful to have crossed paths with them. I am planning another trip to Cape Verde, and I will definitely be coming back for another visit. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!

“Must stay in Maio: 5* experience”

We had a blast at Barracuda Maio! We owe our experience to Mona and Chris, 5 star hosts! They went to pick us up at the ferry, cooked for us, took us fishing and snorkeling! The house is located on a little farm and has everything you need, kitchen included. The beach is only a 5 min walk: beautiful, empty beach. On the farm there’s a lot of different animals so you can feed and play with them. We want to come back already!

I absolutely adored everything about Barracudamaio. Mona and Christophe have worked so hard to create a beautiful space for an exceptional travel experience. It's very close to a secluded beach where you can relax and have some alone time, as well as see the incredible turtles (with Christophe as your guide). I was taught upon arrival how to take a 'bulea' (free ride) with the locals, so very easy (and safe for solo female travellers) to catch a lift to the next town. The accommodation is exceptional in itself and is well thought out with sustainability in mind and furnished beautifully. They both shared their story over delicious dinners (thank you, Mona) about their journey in building Barracudamaio, and I think it's such a beautiful way to live and to help travellers understand the integrity behind creating a sustainable and welcoming space like theirs. Mona and Christophe are such wonderful people with a lot of life experience, and I am so glad to have had the chance to meet them on my travels. Oh and I love their two dogs, Lulu and Irmã. I am returning for my second stay next week - looking forward to seeing them all again! :)

This might be by far the coziest place you can stay at for a trip to Maio. The apartments are big and comfortable and Mona is one of the friendliest hosts I've ever experienced. Her cooking is extraordinary and the jam she makes for breakfast is delicious. The apartment is located 150m away from one of the nicest and loneliest beaches I have seen in my life. You will have the ocean for yourself... At least until others will find out about the beauty of Maio ;)

kristoph and Mona are a very hospitable and warm couple ( French/Norwegian) , you feel immediately at home with them. They pick you up from the boat and serve excellent meals, homemade bread and marmelade and cheese for breakfast, fresh fish dinners. They have created their own piece of heaven on a hectare of walled land. There are only two apartments, very cosy and well equipped. the dogs Jazzy and Irma are part of the family and make you feel straight at home as well. The beautiful beach is at walking distance very nearby, as is the lovely laid back village of Moro. Just walk to the beautiful centuries old baobab tree and you will find the village. From Villa maio/Porto ingles you can walk back to your apartment along the salt pans, a lovely one and a half hour walk.

“You will feel like in family”

Christophe and Mona will welcome you like your are part of the family. After a couple of days you feel you know them for years. Pick-up at the airport, home made cocktail, and dinner (for 8 euros, very fair). Christophe loves his island and wants to share his passion! They both do their maximum to make you feel at home. Definitely have to come back to see the private bar in the backyard when it will be open 🙂
