Great dorms & social area, nice big kitchen, staff is really friendly and helpful (one of my favourite stays)

“Great location and good facilities”

It was in a good location. Had supermarkets and restaurants around as well as in close distance to the activities in Monteverde.

Beautiful hostel! We stayed in the suite and it was perfect. It is a great size and had everything we needed. It was so nice to have our own kitchen! It also has a little balcony out the back where you can see some amazing sunsets.

Accommodating and friendly staff. Breakfast included..pancakes. kitchen very clean and big can accommodate many people cooking at same time. Cat super friendly. Parking available. Our room was able bed very comfortable and we shared a bath and private sitting area with one other room. Reminded me of a back home canadian wooden cottage. Very earthy feel. Really nice. I would recommend it and if I ever make it back to monteverde will definitely stay there again. Great backpackers destination.

Very good value (we had our own, comfortable and clean room for our family of 4), loved the 2 outdoor areas with lovely views. Comfy beds. Short (10min walk to Centre of Santa Elena). Kind, attentive staff that have great recommendations and can book tours for you. Parking available on site.

Room was large and lots of storage space. Hot water & good shower pressure. Nice open place with lots of places to chill out around the hostel.

The staff (only volunteers that didnt work/lived there for long at that time were there) was friendly. Location was good. Beds were comfy, the persons preparing the breakfast were super nice and friendly!

“Very disappointing stay - unfriendly staff”

I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but this stay was honestly very disappointing. Before arriving, we had agreed on a tour for $30 per person for that same evening. When we got to the hotel, the reception suddenly told us the price was $44 per person instead. This was not what had been agreed beforehand. We were told there was no solution and that if we didn’t want to pay the higher price, we simply couldn’t go. The receptionists (who were volunteers, not part of the owning family) handled the situation very poorly. They were dismissive, raised their voices at us, and at one point even told us to be quiet. It felt very disrespectful. The owner later came and explained that her son had made a mistake with the price. At first, she also said the only solution was not to go on the tour. Only after the situation escalated did she offer an alternative tour at the originally agreed price. We accepted, but unfortunately the night walking tour we went on was very poorly organized and honestly quite disappointing. Aside from this issue, there were several other problems during our stay. The receptionists didn’t even know which room was ours when we arrived and at times seemed to mock us rather than help. In the bathroom, there was no hands soap or shower gel — the containers were completely empty — and there wasn’t even toilet paper. The room door didn’t lock properly, which made us feel unsafe. We were not informed about the breakfast time, even though breakfast was included in the price. During the night it was extremely loud, making it hard to sleep. Breakfast itself was also very poor: we were served two very small pancakes and literally half a banana. That was it. It felt careless and not at all what you would expect when breakfast is advertised as included. Overall, what disappointed us most was not just the mistakes, but the attitude and lack of care.

the staff helped me with all the activities. i also asked for an extra blancet for the night and got very fadt another one. kitchen has all you need. breakfast just two pancakes and two pieces of fruit.

The staff were all so kind, helpful and accommodating. On the morning we checked out, the transport we had booked to Liberia cancelled at the last minute leaving us stranded, we asked reception if they could help and they ended up personally driving us there in their pickup - such hospitality!! We had a private room on the ground floor and it was nicely tucked away from the main area, and the room was very spacious, clean and cosy. Bed was comfy and the shower was very hot. The bathroom counter was huge which was useful for our things. The hostel was surprisingly big and there were lots of different communal spaces, a large kitchen and dining area, and great sunset views from the balcony. The street of the hostel looks very industrial but it was only a short walk to the town centre. One of the biggest & cheapest supermarkets was 3 min walk (Supermercado Monteverde). It was really good value for money for Costa Rica.

Nice hostel with good vibe. The staff can help with booking a shuttle to activities. It's not directly downtown, but easily accessible on foot. It's cold at night, but they provide a blanket (although one might not be enough, I recommend you bring warm sleeping clothes).

Studio was spacious and excellent value for money. Yummy pancakes for breakfast. Lovely sunset views.
