The location of Calethea Hotel was good and we could travel to The Cloud Forest, local town, restaurants and attractions easily in our car. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly We really enjoyed the freshly prepared breakfasts each morning

We had a wonderful stay as a couple at this beautiful boutique hotel in Monteverde. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. We arrived earlier than the official 3pm check-in time, and although our room was not yet ready, the team kindly gave us excellent recommendations for places to eat and explore nearby while we waited. The hotel offers secure parking, which was very convenient, and they even provided us with a remote control for the electric gate so we could come and go easily outside office hours. Our room was exceptional — incredibly spacious, with a huge extra-large bed that was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was stunning, featuring a modern walk-in shower and thoughtful amenities including shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and even body lotion. The décor throughout the room was stylish and contemporary. We also appreciated the fridge, safe, coffee machine, and the lovely private terrace with a table and two chairs, perfect for relaxing. The location was ideal for us: only a few minutes from town, yet peaceful and surrounded by nature. Since we had a car, it was also just a short 10-minute drive to the Cloud Forest. The staff went above and beyond during our stay, even helping us arrange a tour at no extra cost, which we really appreciated. A special thank you to Pamela at reception, who was incredibly kind and helpful, sharing lots of great local tips. We also visited her newly opened place, Cloudy Bubble, where we enjoyed a delicious cappuccino and cake. Breakfast was included ( delicious ) and they were extremely accommodating by allowing us to have it before the official hrs (7am) so we were able to visit the cloud forest as soon as they opened the gate for the visitors ! Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. Beautiful rooms, fantastic service, and a perfect base for exploring Monteverde. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Spotlessly clean. Huge room , well more of an apartment with two bedrooms kitchen, lounge area and bathroom. Seemed very new. Amazing space for the price.

Surrounded by wildlife, helpful friendly staff, amazing breakfast. Close healthy supermarket for food. Abundantly wildlife...saw more wildlife here than in the cloud forest

“A great place to stay during your trip to Monteverde”

This hotel seems to be a new build or recently renovated because the interior was sparkling. The floors are tiled throughout and the bedrooms had ample storage and reading lights. There is no A/C, which worried me but the climate in Monteverde is much cooler than in the lowlands or on the coast and we were comfortable with the ceiling fan. The kitchen is equipped with a kettle, coffee maker and cooking oil, salt and pepper which was greatly appreciated as we cooked several meals during our stay. Access to the hotel is through an unpaved and narrow alley and the grounds are small. However, we felt safe and secure with the gate and high walls. We enjoyed watching Netflix in the evening and watching the sun set over the Pacific from the seating area. Breakfast was excellent and the service was exceptional. Michael and Glenn gave us recommendations for different nature reserves to visit and Michael took the time to show us the bugs we could hear from the seating area outside - a type of cicada. The hotel is exposed on the western face of the mountain and the wind howled between the buildings at night. We had some trouble sleeping as a result, but only the first night was exceptionally blustery. This is a great place to stay, and the nicest accommodations we booked during our trip. The only downside is it's distance from the town centre. We rented a car and did struggle to find parking in Santa Elena. Glenn advised us to park at the plaza Commercio, and that was helpful. The cafeteria only serves breakfast, I believe, and you need to order it the day before. That wasn't a problem though and I would recommend staying here. It is great value and very comfortable.
