Overview
Mountain View Lodge is situated below Kanonkop, and above the centre of the town of Montagu along Route 62. This eco-friendly property features a swimming pool and a deck which overlooks the valley. Each individually decorated room has garden views. They come equipped with a fan, a dressing room and a safety deposit box. The private bathroom has a shower with free toiletries. The Belgian Restaurant at Mountain View serves traditional Belgian and South African cuisine. The bar has a wide variety of Belgian, imported and local beers as well as a collection of local wines. Attractions in the area include wine tasting at the wine farms along Route 62, river trips on the authentic River Goose, mountain bike routes and hiking. Montagu Golf Course is a 4-minute drive away. I rely on honest reviews when making my bookings so was quite disappointed to find that the accommodation sends an email saying the following: “Shortly after your stay, youll receive an email from Booking.com asking you to rate and review your experience with us. If you rate us at least 9/10 and your review is not anonymous, youll automatically be entered into our lucky draw!” Thereafter follows a list of “fantastic prizes”. Suffice to say I will give an honest review. I stayed for 3 nights. The lodge is within walking distance of the town centre. Check in and out went well and there is secure parking on site. The room was clean and a good size. Bathroom (shower) was spacious. I had a problem with my o/s plug and Maud kindly sorted this out. So why not a “9” ? Primarily as a result of the bedding, towels and cushions - these are too worn and should really be replaced. Also a common gripe … why is the tv so high up on the wall (near the ceiling)?

We did not have breakfast at the Lodge. We unfortunately only stayed one night as we had a medical emergency and had to leave on Saturday morning. The short stay we had there was very enjoyable, and Alain and Maud were very friendly, professional, kind and helpful. I would recommend the Mountain View Eco Lodge to anyone that I know. We will visit the lodge again.
