This unique 1898 Victorian Home, at which Nelson Mandela and F W De Klerk have stayed, offers guests a feel of Colonial Africa. It features an outdoor pool, garden, restaurant and a library with a fireplace. The Victorian-style rooms and suites at Kingna Lodge Montagu come with a patio. They are equipped with antique furnishings and feature a seating area, wardrobe and a private bathroom with a hairdryer and free toiletries. “Collectors paradise”
John and Joy are so kind and gave us a lovely welcome. We hadn't thought about where we would eat but John had booked us a great restaurant in the area. “Victoriana delight”
Kingna Lodge is a stunningly decorated Victorian home on the main street of Montagu. Each room had its own charming bathroom and period furniture. The room has a heater and extra blanket, which is needed in autumn as it gets nippy in the evenings, plus the bed has a top sheet, always a nice touch. Loadshedding means no power but the rooms have long-life bulbs and the oil lamps in the hallway bring back the glory days of this magnificent house. John is an excellent host and will organise your evening dinner bookings – highly recommend the Montagu Country Hotel and The Victorian for dinner and the Rambling Rose for breakfast. If you ask John, he will give you a tour of the private rooms in the house and the history, including Nelson Mandela’s visit. Have a G&T in the bar or sit on the veranda and watch the sunset reflected off the mountains. John is an excellent host who sorts out little problems immediately.

“Historic house with helpful hosts”
Drinks on arrival were very welcome and set the tone for our stay. Host John is helpful, friendly & knowledgeable. Kingna Lodge has a lot of history. An opportunity to stay in the room used by Nelson Mandela was an unexpected treat. The pool is perfect for cooling off and relaxing on sunbeds with towels provided. Secure on site parking for our motorcycle was appreciated. There are cafes and restaurants in Montagu but few were open when we stayed on Sunday.
