The host of the Ryokan was extremely kind and helpful. We arrived late on the first night of our stay and were very grateful the dinner provided.

“John and Sue Le Carpentier.”
Everything was just great a fantastic experience well run and so friendly.Very handy to everything, but you do really need a car. We were there on a weekend and used the buses which we managed with okay but they do restrict you. As an older couple 83 and 76 we could not have been happier with Iya Kankou, would thoroughly recommend.

“Loved our stay”
This is such a lovely inn run by a wonderful family. They kindly prepared vegan dinner and breakfast for us. We had a very relaxing stay and loved waking up to the sound of the river.

“Wonderful stay in an authentic guest house at a very reasonable price Superb breakfasts & dinner.”
If you are looking for 4 or 5 star luxury accommodation Iya Kankou Ryokan is not for you. However, if you are looking for a welcoming comfortable guest house with beautiful traditional meals and a wonderful hostess, this is the place for you. Yes, the stairs are steep (we were on the 3rd floor), yes, that facilities are shared not ensuite, but Bee San is a treasure and her hospitality is superb. Assisted by her son, - a chef, the meals are traditional, very tasty and very reasonably priced, as is the ryokan. Bee San has some English and s very helpful. The location, 5 min walk from the Vine Bridge and 8 min walk to the bus station and tourist centre is supurb.

Kazu and Mother and Grandmother made us feel very welcome, after we arrived wet, dirty and tired after arriving by bike. They graciously accommodated my wife's gluten allergy, and the food was delicous.

“Comfortable ryokan away from the tourist hubs - large room, super hosts and delicious food!”
The location was great. 10 minute walk down some steps to the vine bridge. Hilly walk to the bus but also max 15 mins between the stop and the guesthouse. I loved my experience here - the yukata and the food was plentiful and delicious. The hosts were kind and helpful, booking me an onsen in the neighbouring hotel and knew everyone in the area. It was one of the highlights of my trip, my stay here!

“Authentic food, perfect location, generous owner”
Excellent quality for the price. Do not expect a luxury ryokan. This is the oldest one in Iya valley, opened 60 years ago by a lovely family. The food and the location are the highlights.

It's a truly stylish ryokan, run by a lovely family. It boasts stunning views of the river valley. I liked the little details, such as the sweets, yukata and tea set in the room. The kitchen is also worth exploring. It was certainly one of the best places we stayed at during our four-week trip in Japan.

“Perfect stay for Iya Valley”
The location, the food, front of house was grandma a fabulous lady. We loved being able to use the hotel up the road Onsen facilities. Grandma arranged for us at very preferential rates and we used the outdoor one, perfect view after going up in the vernacular cabin.

The host was incredibly welcoming and had run a hot bath ready for us. The rooms were quite large and the futons very comfortable. Great location opposite the vine bridge.
