“Beautiful ryokan stay with sea views and a delicious dinner”
I highly recommend this place, the most charming stay of our time in Japan. Delicious multi course traditional dinner included, with really lovely staff. The lady who runs the place took her time to tell us all about the places we should visit whilst we were on the island on our arrival and gave us maps too which was really useful and very kind. They also let us store our luggage there as we arrived a little early for check in, so that we could go off and explore. Beautiful clean ryokan style room with sea views, in close proximity to local sites and across the road from ferry terminal so very convenient. Thanks once again! :-)

“An experience not to be missed”
We felt welcomed as friends from the minute we walked through the door of this family run ryokan. The Japanese style room was comfortable and had everything we needed for the night. Dinner was amazing. Dietary requirements were checked on arrival and the chef came out with every course to explain where the ingredients came from (all were local), and instruct on how to eat if necessary. We enjoyed a 7 course tasting menu and every course was exceptional, particularly the sashimi. Breakfast was a choice of Japanese or Western. We chose Japanese and weren’t disappointed. This is an experience not to be missed.

“Excellent stay on Miyajima”
Very friendly welcome from 'Mum' with advice on what to visit around Miyajima. Delicious traditional Japanese dinner of many courses, the origin of each described in detail by chef 'Son'. Choice of Japanese or continental breakfast. Large room with private bathroom. Great location opposite ferry port and walking distance to all sights. Definitely recommend.

“Seriously well worth the trip”
I am not sure where to start. Location - directly opposite the ferry terminal and across from lawson’s Service- absolutely can’t fault anything, nothing was too much trouble. With the help of google translate and some English, we were so looked after. I paid for the half board as I am coeliac and I had seen good reviews. The food was amazing and endless. We tasted items I wouldn’t have had an opportunity to try elsewhere. The rooms were Japanese style and suited all our needs. Great view from our room and well ventilated. Seriously well worth the trip.

“Authentic Japanese Hospitality”
Authentic Hospitality: Yamaichi Bekkan is the true definition of omotenashi. Being a small-scale Ryokan, the experience feels incredibly personal and serene, offering a peaceful escape from the many day-trippers on the island. A Deep Dive into Tradition: From the moment you step into the genkan and trade your shoes for slippers, you leave the modern world behind. I loved the attention to Japanese etiquette, with specific slippers for the bathroom and even a third pair for the room to keep the living space "pure." The Room: A classic Japanese room with fragrant tatami mats and shoji (sliding doors). Sleeping on a traditional futon (shikibuton) was comfortable and added to the sense of refinement and tranquility in the interior. The Transformation: A highlight was dressing in the traditional yukata and haori (overcoat). Wearing the zori (slippers) made me feel like a true part of the island’s ancient traditions. A Culinary Journey: The Kaiseki dinner was spectacular, focusing on local products from the Seto Inland Sea. It was a 7-course masterpiece featuring beef, various sea fish, shrimp, and crab. Each dish looked like a piece of art.

“Execellent stay and loved the traditional foods and warm hospitality”
The Japanese dinner and breakfast were excellent and very generous portions- they catered to all dietary requirements as well. Wonderful hospitality from the owner and her son- they gave lots of information about how to best explore the island. Location also very convenient as it was opposite the ferry terminal! Japanese bedding and bathroom was comfortable and clean as well :)

“A very comfortable and comfortable stay in Miyajima”
We stayed here for a couple of nights in December. Great location, bang opposite the Ferry Terminal. Shinko-san (the owner) is an amazing host. She is very friendly, welcoming and informative. She showers you with so much love and warmth that you don't feel like leaving. The traditional room (with Tatami Mats and Futon beds) on the second floor was the biggest in our one month trip to Japan. It had a balcony with a good view. The AC was functional. The bathroom + WC though dated and compact, was very clean. Spotlessly clean linen and towels. A multi-course traditional Japanese dinner on both nights with each dish being explained personally, either by Shinko or her help Oishi, was an experience we will never forget. We however opted for a Continental / Western breakfast just for a change. The two days were perfect to cover most of Miyajima island including all the temples, pagoda and going up to Mount Misen for some breathtaking views (this was the highlight of the trip) of the bay and Hiroshima city. Watching the beautiful Torii Gate at low, mid & high tide was another highlight. Overall, a very memorable and comfortable stay in Miyajima and a big thank you to Shinko and the rest of the staff including the two chefs (who made the wonderful dinner on both nights).
