Grate facilities and great service from the staff. Huge rooms with a great shared onsen (but private- there is a list for taking turns). The staff helped with anything we needed, including luggage storage before check in. The lady in the reception also helped with recommendations in the area and times of sunset, sunrise, low tide (for the floating gate) and routes for climbing mount Misen. Couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Strongly recommended if you want a true Japanese experience. Rooms where dated but great and with an authentic feeling. The private onsen was a blast. Food was excellent super seeded ony by the kindness and dedication of the staff. I've a lot of severe allergies and they were able to accommodate then perfectly without making me feel left out during dinner (very hard). Loved every single second we were there.

This was one of the most unique experiences I have ever had. If you are planning to go to Miyajima instead of doing a day trip stay a night in here and be sure to experience Kaiseki. It was exceptional.

The place is awesome! Best Ryokan we've been in Japan. The room was very big, the futon very comfortable, and they provide you a very nice kimono! The room was very warm. The lady speaks a decent English. She offers the onsen upon reservation in the morning, and it's very nice. Third floor: common room with view in the entire bay and the pagoda! They also offered us a lift to the pier, since it was raining heavily!

This place is a leap in the past. Welcoming owner and ready with stories and advice about our stay, absolutely adorable, and even iffered sone little keepsake for the occasion. is not cheap, honestly, but worth every penny spent. The rooms were with a tatami floor and futon beds and it was as cosy and comfortable as it could be.

Location, friendly and helpful hosts, amazing food. All in no particular order. Have always wanted to stay overnight on the island. Saw this deal, so happy. Despite the rain, everything was perfect. Was even lent an umbrella to borrow. Would love to return. Thoroughly and I mean it thoroughly recommend this place.

“Best night of my trip”

I’ve had the best night sleep of my whole trip at Ryoso Kawaguchi. The room was so cosy, the futon so comfortable and the private bath room was a gem and a great experience, so relaxing after a day of sightseeing of the beautiful island of Miyajima. The owners are two extremely nice people, helped me whenever I had any questions, and made sure I had everything I needed. The establishment is also really conveniently placed and offers a beautiful view on the pagoda. (And you’ll be pleasantly surprised of the view of the second floor common room, especially at night!)

The hostess was incredibly friendly and helpful and spoke far better English than I speak Japanese.The room was the most spacious we had in our entire trip to Japan and a very relaxing place to sleep and relax for a little while. The onsen bath was great and as I didn't realize it was part of the stay when booking a nice surprise too. Ryoso Kawaguchi is located pretty perfectly to be within a short walk of anywhere we went on Miyajima. Oh and the building itself was beautiful.

Wonderful food, and amazing accommodation of my Gluten free requirements. The property is very close to Itsukushima Jinja, and all the shops on the island. You get a private bath with your partner.

Superb family run ryokan. Great private hot bath and lovely traditional Japanese meals. A really nice place to have the full Japanese ryokan experience. Also really close to the floating Tori gate and to get to the cable car for the mountain.
