“You, and Miyajima, deserve this!!!”
Incredibly welcoming staff at the door and desk, a calm ambience to the foyer, general areas and room.... ....oh the room, it was lovely!!! We didn't have one of the sea-facing suites but our rear-facing "veranda" (?) looked out on lush green foothills, and in the morning a light spell of rain rewarded is with a glorious chorus of birds - sublime!!! The communal baths (our first ever!) were also amazing, and the provided Yukata really helped plant the experience. As architect-y people we also loved the old/new, beton brut -meets- Japanese aesthetic - however pastiche (snobs) or naff (Philistines) might find it! A solid mention for the fantastic map provided by the front-desk for over-night-stay'ers! Most of Miyajima closed down once the tourist ferries depart - and with vegans amongst us the steering offered by the guide was very welcome. (we went to the nearby Niwa Cafe for an amazing dinner). Plus: We checked-out fairly early to avoid the daytrip crowds and (despite stopping at the nearby Lawson) had the whole boat to Hiroshima Port to ourselves! So do stay overnight ON Miyajima and support hotels like Makoto!

“Amazing Ryokan Experience”
The experience of sleeping in a ryokan was amazing and very comfortable. The staff prepare the futons for you if you want or you can tell them not to. The location is great, just 5min walking from the ferry station.

“In short, if I come back to Miyajima - this is the hotel I want to stay in again - I think that sums up my thoughts and”
The staff were incredibly friendly, always going above and beyond to help us feel welcomed and comfortable. The room was traditional, it was an experience! The food was super and staff super hard working! All The staff at reception were exceptional! They always on hand to help, helped me with my luggage to and from the Ferry station (shuttle service), always greeting you and making sure you were well looked after with requests you may have. Actually I have to say this place did go way above and beyond - highly recommend this hotel and I for sure would stay here again - beautiful Island, traditional hotel and fantastic, super friendly staff - well done!!!

I've stayed in many Ryokan all over Japan and this place exceeded my expectations. The room size was large. Location was perfect, walking distance to all the island attractions and ferry. The entire hotel was a stylish mix of modern concrete with traditional touches of wood, tatami and artwork. The quality, taste and presentation of the meals was excellent. Some Ryokan go more for 'the wow factor ' than the eating experience, but their chef has perfected this. Everything was just so comfortable, relaxing and friendly. This was the perfect break from our busy trip around Japan.

“Nice reasonably priced ryokan stay”
Affordable traditional ryokan stay compared to other ryokan I was looking at. Very reasonable for the price. We were able to book private onsen for no additional cost. Breakfast and dinner kaiseki tasted lovely. Short walk to torii gate

The hotel was perfect! The staff were extremely kind and attentive. The room was beautiful and cozy, the futon was very comfortable, the yukatas were very comfortable and beautiful. The traditional Japanese breakfast was also delicious!! And the onsen was very nice and relaxing. It was very well located, at walking distance from everything. It was an incredible experience to stay at the Miyajima Makoto Hotel. We will definitely be returning!!

“A traditional hotel on the beautiful Miyajima Island with views which must be experienced.”
Such a wonderful location. To stay on the island and enjoy everything Miyajima Island has to offer and then to stay at a hotel like this is such an amazing experience. Any easy walk from the Ferry Terminal and close to the main shopping street. It is easy to walk to all the beautiful attractions on this island. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The hotel is very traditional but luxurious. The rooms are very spacious and offer views over the water and to the Itsukushima Shrine over the village roof tops. The traditional breakfast and dinners are a must experience with fresh seafood and vegetables. They also have public onsen and a private onsen. I would highly recommend staying a minimum of 2 nights to fully enjoy everything.

I had a wonderful stay and couldn’t be happier with my experience. The staff were absolutely amazing — incredibly kind, attentive, and always willing to help, which really made the stay special. The room was spotless, comfortable, and very well maintained, and the view was fantastic — something I genuinely looked forward to every day. The public bath was also excellent: clean, relaxing, and the perfect way to unwind after a long day. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.
