The room was spacious and clean. There is a patio where you can do bird-watching. Free tea/coffee/filtered water available. Great place to stay if you like to be away from the crowds and enjoy nature. There's a restaurant next door with good afforfable (vegetarian) meals.

This place is a little paradise. So much peace, sounds of the nature by night, songs of birds waking you up. If you want to be out of the noises and dust of the town, that' s your place. Super comfy and nice rooms, there are also 2 fully equiped apartmans (but bring provisions, as there is no shop and the rest. nearby can be closed). Birdwatching terrace with binoculars at your disposition, there is tea and instant caffee all day. Very nice host. 100% recomanded. I would stay longer!

“Nature’s paradise in rustic surroundings with a superb host!”

I echo all these superb reviews on here about the host, German. He was truly exceptional and such a gentleman. He was friendly, attentive, informative and available to help. He kept me informed when he was going to be unavailable and spent time explaining things to me with my limited Spanish skills. I spent some time trying to spot a toucan and German spotted one within five minutes of asking him. He even took a bug out of my room for me (Gracias, German!). Great location in the middle of the forest, surrounding by raw beauty and birds flying all around you. It is also within walking distance of the Tarabita cable car and next to the Tangeras reserve. A pair of binoculars and a telescope are also available along with filtered water, hot water and a range of herbal teas. Rooms were basic but comfortable, great value for money and small discount offered with extended stay, laundry service (washing machine and dryer) also available for a fair fee. I’m very grateful for this truly memorable stay!

“Great place fro nature lovers”

Sandero de las aves resides in amazing location! In the middle of a forest in the mountains and have a great view. You can see few species of Hummingbirds and other birds just from your balcony. In the feeders nearby I saw Tayra some tanagers and Guayaquil woodpecker. The room is very spacious and include a kitchen with refrigerator. Germán the owner is an in excellent guy, always ready to help you in everything and show you the birds in the area (such as pauraque and white-throated crake). Regarding arriving – my advice is having a car since its few kilometers from town in the mountains. Bottom line – great place for birders and nature lovers.

Being located away from town and right in the middle of nature, the property brings us away from the distractions of everyday life and back to the simplicity and beauty of nature. Love being surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature, including the forest, birds, agouti, tayra, fireflies etc. The property has an open view of the cloud forest and numerous birds can be seen around the property, including vultures, kites, toucans, parrots, tanagers, hummingbirds etc The owner is kind, accommodating and attentive, and does his best to ensure that guests enjoy their stay. The property is nearby the Taribita, Zipline and Las Tangaras Reserve where a cock of the rock tour can be done.

“Little gem up the mountain”

The place is located up the mountain in the middle of the forest and has his own birdwatching platform with water, coffee and tea available for guests. They also have binoculars and mosquito repellent to make your birdwatching experience very comfortable. We saw a lot of birds (tucan, parrot,...) and even an agoeti. The host is very friendly and arranged the taxi's for us. There is a very good restaurant next door with delicious local food for both breakfast and dinner.

The views, wildlife, and hospitality were outstanding. We did not speak spanish well but the owner was patient and provided us with good local information and would point out great bird sightings on the property. The views from the room were amazing! We even saw toucans from our windows. The owner really cares for the property and it is set up to draw in nature. We stayed an extra night, we loved it so much. Also, the food next door was the best we had in Mindo. Overall, it was a perfect spot for nature lovers.

A very friendly owner with expert knowledge of the local wildlife. Sitting on the observation deck with coffee and binoculars was perfect. I saw toucans every day

“Tranquility in a forest full of beautiful birds”

This place is hummingbird paradise. You could sit on the verandah all day watching the mist roll in and away and the constant hummingbirds at feeders mere metres away. It’s also set up for bird watching and there are birds coming and going all day including toucans and beautiful little colourful birds.

This place is fantastic! Every morning and all day also you can see a lot of birds. Toucans and other tropical birds fly in. Lots of hummingbirds. I also saw tayra and agouti. Great views of the forest. Very comfortable accommodation and a wonderful host. There is a great restaurant very close by. Everything is delicious there. I am happy that I chose this option. I walked to the city of Mindo or took a taxi.

This place is perfect if you're looking for a place to relax, it's very quiet and you can see lots of birds, the view is wonderful and you can take nice walks to so many places. 100% recommended.

“A true slice of paradise”

Out of all the places I have stayed, not just in this 30 day trip to Ecuador but in my 30 years of travel I consider this place to be the best place I've ever stayed.. I was in the apartment which has everything you need and the view from the bedroom and back porch was breathtaking! You can see over the canopy to the cloud forest clad hills in the distance that surround Mindo. The lush vegetation that is close to the lodge is constantly filled with the sounds and sights of abundant bird life ... Banded Forrest falcons, Choco and yellow toucans and the most hummingbirds I ever saw at someone's feeders including the impossibly small purple throated woodstar, were all daily encounters. And to seal the deal at the bottom of the driveway is a restaurant with fantastic local dishes and hands down the best coffee I had in Ecuador (not in my travels, that would go to Kona Hawaii, sorry). In short it felt like the Gods gave me a slice of paradise for the last few days of my stay.. for which to them and my gracious and knowledgeable host German, I'm truly grateful.

We stayed at this spacious apartment primarily because of its location in a quiet area. What we didn't expect was the amazing birdwatching opportunity right from our windows. During our stay, we observed numerous species including hummingbirds, toucans, and tanagers, all without having to leave our room and even bed. The property provides binoculars and a telescope for guests, which we found very useful for observing the birds in more detail. The peaceful surroundings really allowed us to enjoy the natural environment. The walk downtown took a little bit of time, but we enjoyed the exercise and it was very enjoyable walk. When returning, we usually took a taxi which only cost $5. This accommodation would suit nature enthusiasts who prefer a quieter location over being in the city center. We particularly appreciated being able to watch the local wildlife while relaxing in a comfortable settings.

Great location and few km out of Mindo. Great viewing platform with amazing variety of birds amd mammals all near enough to photograp or even touch!! German was v helpful and passionate about providing the perfect nature-spotting experience and is already most the way there. Great little restaurant at bottom of the drive.
