“Great experience in a lovely authentic Ryokan.”
Fabulous rustic and authentic Ryokan. Service is incredible ! Attention to detail is second to none. The food was gargantuan but sadly too much for my little stomach. The baths are nice and the private ones are a great addition. They picked me up and dropped me off from / to the bus stop which was a lovely gesture as the slop is really steep.

“Would recommend!”
Super friendly and helpful staff. Delicious food (breakfast and dinner) We had a traditional room with a private bath - a very positive experience incl. A nice view of the river and nightly frog-noises :) Well situated in Kurokawa so arrive by bus!

The staff is young, friendly, and full of goodwill. The room is spacious, and the onsen water is wonderful. It’s just a short walk to the main street and many of the different onsens. The meals are traditional and varied, though some dishes were better than others.

“Amazing”
This Ryokan is incredible, our room was really nice, the onsen is very calming and with our booking we got 1x private onsen booking. All the food was amazing and staff were so attentive and friendly, it is in a really good location with a very short walk to the village centre

“Rejuvenating stay”
Lovely place. Atmospheric. Friendly and gracious staff. Great kaiseki and breakfast- washoku. The room was very quiet. Could hear birdsong from the trees outside which was a pleasure. Lovely outdoor single gender onsens.

“Perfect overnight getaway”
The staff were super friendly, even with our broken Japanese, they helped us from the moment we were wondering if we parked at the right spot, from waving us goodbye on our way out. Actually got a bit teary, in a good way.

“The highlight of our entire trip!”
Staying at this ryokan was absolutely the best part of our journey. The staff picked us up from the bus stop when we arrived in Kurokawa and dropped us off on our departure day, such a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the whole stay. The food was outstanding, fresh, beautifully presented, and deeply flavorful. The atmosphere was serene and authentic, and the whole experience left us with the warmest memories. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Kurokawa!

“Beautiful ryokan stay”
Beautiful ryokan. The room was spacious and we loved the in-room private onsen. The public onsen was gorgeous too. Very accommodating of vegetarian diet, and accommodating for children too.

“Magical place”
The dinner was delicious, as well as the breakfast. In the onsen area there were 2 baths, indoor one (maybe 40°C) and outdoor one (a bit hotter). The bamboo groove was just next to our windows and also next to outdoor bath, so I loved the view. The stuff was friendly and helpful. It was a great stay.

We have stayed in a Ryokan before, however, Ryokan Wakaba was exceptional. Right from checkin the staff were superb. Kind, friendly and willing to please. The room was excellent with our own onsen and shower. Not to mention a fantastic layout including elevated dining area and comfy Western style beds. Now the food! Where do I start. Dinner and breakfast was the best we have ever experienced in Japan and this is our second trip here. Not did it just look good but the flavours added to kaiseki experience.
