The room is great, quiet. clean and comfortable to stay with good view. The lounge relaxing in the reception area area is great with coffee provided for in house guests. There are comfortable sofa and relaxing chairs provided . Both the meals dinner and breakfast is good to us.

Ryokan Nanjoen is an outsanding ryokan right in the heart of Kurokawa Onsen. It seems to be a very traditional Japanese ryokan, the room was very spacious with tatami mat sitting room, very comfortable futon bedding and amazing views out over the valley. We were lucky enough to have a private onsen which was amazing - though there is no shortage of beautiful onsen options in town so be sure to allow some time to explore. The food was a highlight, Japanese set menu with an enormous array of beautifully prepared dishes. Different meals on each night served in beautiful dining spaces. I would advise to have a very light lunch as you will not go hungry. I'm not sure what the staff to guest ratio is but we felt like we had our own private butler. There was always someone on hand to field any questions and all friendly and welcoming. Their English was better than my Japanese so getting information was no issue at all. Overall, I would highly recommend - and definitely would stay here again. The ryokan and the town itself are really very beautiful. Be sure to go down to the river after dark to check out the lantern display.

Truly enjoyed our stay in Nanjoen - was a wonderful experience overall. The staff were so kind and thoughtful throughout our stay. The kaiseki meals (both breakfast & dinner) were great - would definitely recommend it. We enjoyed the onsen facilities as well. We drove here and there is ample parking space right outside the ryokan. It’s a very rustic and traditional ryokan but very clean & comfortable. Our room was very spacious and had great views of the valley. It’s located right in the middle of the onsen town. Definitely one of our better stays in Japan in recent times.

We had the family room for two adults and two kids, plus private bathroom and onsen. The location is really good and the staff were friendly.

“Marvellous Ryokan experience - magical”

THis was my first stay in a Ryokan and it did not disappoint. THe whole experience was magical - the room, the view over the hills, forest and town, the baths. The meals were excellent - two different breakfasts and and we took to the opportunity to have the Kaiseki dinners - an amazing assortment of tastes and textures. Kurokawa is a magical town that is wonderful to walk aroundand we took the opportunity to get an Onsen passport to try a few of the other baths. THe parking is easy. THe staff were excellent and patiently helped us understand the way to to enjoy a Ryokan

“Fantastic service and great onsen.”

Their service is no.1 good. The staffs are very patience and kind to go through areas we need to know such as the time they will prepare our futon and breakfast. They helped us carry our luggage right into the room. Their spacious room which overlook the parking lot and tourist centre is super clean and neat. Location is the best which is surrounded by many eateries and cute little shops. They even prepare little amenities gifts for guests (male and female different) to bring back as souvenirs with their Ryokan logo on it. Not to mention their outfit to wear around for onsen hopping. Their onsen is one of the best as compared. Highly recommend to try theirs. The breakfast is fabulous. The staffs even arranged to contact the hotel we will be staying at Fukuoka and the courier to deliver our international socket that we left behind to us.
