Overview
Boasting 6 different hot spring baths, Kurokawa-So is a traditional ryokan accommodation nestled in a tranquil valley along the river. It features some Japanese-style guest rooms with tatami (woven-straw) flooring. The newly renewed bathing facilities on site provide staying guests with 8 different public baths including open-air baths and indoor public baths. The public baths for non-staying guests is separated from the baths for staying guests. A family bath is available for free as well. Guests can leave their luggage at the front desk after the check-out. In-room massages can be arranged at extra charge. A gift shop with original goods is on site. Spacious rooms at Kurokawa-So are fitted with a TV and a low table. Japanese-style rooms feature traditional futon bedding, while a Western room comes with beds. The property is a 90-minute drive from Kumamoto Airport, or a 50-minute drive from JR Aso Train Station. Kuju Flower Park is a 20-minute drive away. Free pick-up service from the nearest bus stop is available if requested at time of booking. Carefully prepared Japanese multi-course dinner can be enjoyed. Dinner will be served at dining room from Aug.

A beautiful, well-maintained place, impeccably clean throughout. Both dinner and breakfast, served in a private room, were absolutely delicious. The onsen is fantastic, with a dedicated area reserved exclusively for hotel guests, which is a great touch. There is also a separate space for visitors participating in onsen hopping. From start to finish, the staff were kind, helpful, and highly professional. Fully recommended.

The staff was amazing, we had some food limitations and it was considered and evreyone was so kind. The room was huge and the private onsen was fantastic, as well as the common ones. The whole place is very antique and magical.

“Amazing ryokan !”
Amazing ! We had booked the best room with two private onsens. The suite was beautiful and very confortable. We enjoyed the cakes and tea. The onsens of this ryokan are beautiful. We liked the soap, and cleaning items. The diner and breakfast are sourced with delicious local rice. Everything was delicious and perfect. We would have liked to stay longer !

“Great onsen in a lovely village”
The onsen were some of the best ones in all of Kurokawa. We loved the village and the onsen hopping pass that you can buy at Kurokawa-So allowing you to visit the onsens of three other Ryokans in the village. The staff was very nice and they even prepared a vegetarian dinner and breakfast for me.

The property is beautiful and very comfortable, with a wonderful variety of onsen to enjoy. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming, which made the stay even more pleasant. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were superb—both beautifully prepared and delicious.

Lovely ryokan nestled in the lush greenery with many options of public baths. Great location near to attractions! Excellent service level - Greatly appreciate the concierge service staff patiently waiting for us at the carpark in the rain to welcome us with umbrellas and helping with our luggages.

Beautiful old ryokan located by the river with great onsen facilities. The hotel has a public part and a separate one just for guests and three private onsens, which must be booked in advance at the reception (one visit is free). fantastic, discreet service, the reception staff spoke very good English. Beautiful, spacious room with a toilet.

The experience was wonderful，super nice staff delievered our dinner to the room and introduced every detail of the meal. The onsen was also beyond the expectations with all the amazing outside views
