“Amazing ryokan experience”

Had one night stay in this lovely ryokan. This was our first ryokan experience and everything was perfect! Big dinner with wagyu and horse sashimi. We had public onsens most of the time to ourselves and we also went to all of the private onsens which are beautiful. Staff is so helpful and very attentive.

I stayed one night at Fumoto Ryokan (Kurokawa Onsen) and was genuinely very satisfied. The ryokan is traditional and understated—wood, stone, soft lighting—nothing flashy, but immediately calming. There are many baths, indoor and outdoor, and you never feel rushed; you can soak as much as you like. A small wooden bridge runs through the property, and in the evening, when the lights come on, the atmosphere is quietly beautiful. What really exceeded my expectations was the dinner. I didn’t expect much, but it turned out to be excellent—on par with high-level kaiseki. The ingredients were generous and high quality: a full plate of wagyu, fresh horse sashimi, and dishes that were clean, precise, and well-balanced. In Kyoto, a dinner like this for two would easily cost around ¥150,000. At night, sleeping on tatami with the sound of the river outside was incredibly comfortable. Service was warm and attentive without being intrusive. One practical note: most people arrive via the Kyushu Odan Bus, which only runs three times a day, so tickets must be booked in advance. The ryokan can arrange pickup from Kurokawa Onsen. In the low season, it’s around ¥20,000+ per night for two, including dinner. I found it very good value—and I’d happily stay again.

“Excellent staff and beautiful traditional ryokan”

Excellent hospitality from staff We couldn't find the ryokan and stuck in the no entry road and parking aside, my sis walk to the ryokan and the staff come to me and help to drive my car to the ryokan and thereafter help to park my car as the road there is really narrow. The staff are really attentive as we were "hands free" checking in and out as our luggage were very well taking care of. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent from the taste to the display of the food.

Great location, very nice setting and loved the different Onsen. The food was amazing and the staff very thoughtful and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it.

I really like the traditional Japanese-style rooms at the Japanese inn. There was also a small hot spring bath in the room I stayed in this time, which was great! The meals provided by the hotel are also delicious. It's a pity to stay only for one night. I really want to stay a few more nights! I will definitely visit again if I have the chance.

“Highly Recommended Ryokan in Kurokawa Onsen”

The staff are very friendly and helpful, they parked the car for us. Kaiseki spreads were really awesome and sumptuous, many dishes came with beautiful display. They provides private Onsen rooms, so this was good for people prefers to be alone or just with family. The breakfast was a full meal and delicious. The Ryokan location is convenient. The staff took pictures for us on the departure day.

“Amazing and far exceed our expectations!”

The vibe is amazing, staff is very friendly from the moment you arrived the hotel. Their staff are very skillful that they can parking our big size car, don't be afraid to ask them to park your car. Food is amazing and all kind of varieties, and do not need to worry about the hotspring, they have so many on site.

“Very nice accommodation and staffs”

Nice place with very good shared onsen. The staffs are very friendly with very good service. I was just wondering if I can drive in the walking path or not and the staff passed by and offered help. My kids said this is the best accommodation of our trip.

Everything! From the moment we parked our car till leaving the village, everything was at 7 out of 5 stars level! The attention and help of staff, the baths, the meals - everything! Loved our stay!

The hospitality given by the staff there is excellent. The onsen choices are various and good.

Nice room, wonderful dinner and marvelous breakfast. Very friendly staff, very helpful in explaining the etiquette around using the onsen and around the dinner table.

Have never stayed somewhere with so much attention to detail. Staff were so helpful. We had the meals and the evening meal was delicious although rather too much food. But the experience was great. There all so many onsens and we tried several. There was no queue. Our room was delightful

“One of our best trips ever”

We like the accommodation, the private onsen facilities, the location, the food, the shuttle service from and to the express bus stops, and of course most importantly the staff of the Ryokan. The Kaiseki dinner was served in our room and the Ryokan had accommodated our dietary request. Special shout out to 陈婷, the staff handling our dinner, bedding arrangement and breakfast. We felt so relaxed and welcomed. Thank you for making our trip such a wonderful one and our Ryokan onsen experience a memorable one.

Greeted by friendly receptionist, rooms are huge even for a family of 6. Food and on-sen are exceeded our expectation. One particular receptionist could speak Mandarin and she made our stay so comfortable.

“Great place to relax and forget all your worries!”

The service was excellent, everything was taken care of and you just need to decide on the timing to eat your breakfast and dinner. The onsen were superb - many rooms to choose from and not very crowded (visited in end Oct). A great place to forget about everything else and relax. The Kurokawa area is gorgeous too!
