“Amazing stay!”

Great experience in traditional Japanese house! The room was super big. At the restroom you have even view at tiny tree. The owner was very friendly and had great recommendations what to do around this location.

The Host was very kind and respectful. The service was very good and breakfast was generous to start the day full off energy.

Hide was very friendly and welcoming.

Free parking right behind the house, and a very friendly host who shared helpful tips and nearby itinerary suggestions.

The breakfast was excellent, the beds were super comfy and homey .The cats and the staff were very friendly and mindful of their guests , the staffs were even caring of the guests more than themselves. The guest room was so big.

“Great little traditional hostel”

The hostel was clean and beautifully traditional on the inside. Futons were comfortable and we had everything we needed. Some lovely touches like the shampoo bar for guests to use. We were the only guests so had the whole place to ourselves. The owner was very welcoming and friendly.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The owner is an engineer who created this space almost from scratch, and you can truly feel the care and thought put into every detail. Every day the place was clean, well-maintained, and absolutely perfect. Right next door, the owner and his wife run a Thai restaurant, and the food there is incredibly delicious! And those two cats who come by during the day and spend time in the guesthouse — they are simply amazing.

Momiji hostel is more like a Bed and Breakfast than a hostel. We enjoyed out 2 nights here and found it to be a good base as we explored around the area. The host was very friendly and provided lots of helpful suggestions for what to see in the local area and recommendations for hiking trails around Aso. The host kindly provided a breakfast which was suitable for a vegan diet. The kitchen was well equipped and clean and the building was a nice traditional Japanese house.

There is everything you need. The owner is super friendly and helpfull with good recommendations for food and relaxation (onsen). 10/10 would come again.

Lovely property. Large traditional style room. Owner very helpful. Great shrine and beautiful pond only 3 minutes walk. Handy for Mount Aso and Takachiho gorge. The cats were very cute too

“A cosy stay”

It’s near Mt Aso by car. Cosy and private. Host gave personal attention. Hostel was well kept.

Everything was petfect, the owners are really sweet and helpfull, the room is beautiful and comfortable, breakfast was food and the cats are super cute

Authentic, old Japanese House, a hearty and welcoming host, what else is there to wish for? We came here after visiting Mt. Aso and Hide was so nice. He gave us loads of useful information about the area and things to do, if we had more time we would've stayed longer. Regarding the comments of other guests about insects: we found the rooms to be clean and no relevant number of insects or spiders anywhere.

Amazing staff, super fun to see must visit!

This is by far the best place I've ever stayed at. The owner of this place is the kindest and most purehearted individual I've meet in a long while. Him and his wife was super helpfull and making sure I was getting to my next stop without issue. I wish I could stay longer, the gorgeous cats are a plus.

“Excellent choice to stay in Takamori (Aso)”

I absolutely loved staying at Momiji hostel! Hide-san told and showed me everything around the house and gave some advice on where to go in the neighborhood, made a simple yet good breakfast in the morning. We've had a pleasant talk with Hide-san before I left, and he made sure I got on the bus to the Takamori station. I was surprised with being the only one to stay overnight that day, and I felt super comfortable. The arcade machine, the room samurai katana and tanto, the shampoo bar with Hide-san's personal recommendations, the bookshelf with manga in different languages, and the two lovely cats Nuan and Riku who even have their own Instagram - everything was top-notch! Hide-san, I would love to meet you again some day!

The best Guesthouse I have ever stayed in! The host is a super nice and attentive person, he made us feel like we were at home. The hostel is beautiful, it is made of details and with a lot of love love. They have two beautiful kittens!
