Surrounded by lush mountains in Minakami, Tenjin Lodge is just a 5-minute walk from Tenjindaira Snow Resort Ropeway and JR Doai Station. Activities like rafting, hiking and canoeing can be enjoyed in the area. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the property. Lodge Tenjin is a 20-minute drive from JR Minakami Station, and free pick-up shuttles are available when requested at time of booking. Okutone Snow Park is a 10-minute drive away, while Houdaiji Ski Resort is within a 20-minute drive. Japanese-style rooms come with tatami (woven-straw) flooring and traditional futon bedding, while guests in carpeted rooms sleep on Western beds. Group room comes with shared bath room. All other rooms have a private toilet, washbasin, shower and bath. The property offers bicycle rentals and free luggage/ski equipment storage services. There is a common lounge area where guests can unwind watching TV or use internet PCs. Ski passes and equipment rentals can be arranged at the property, and staff provide advise about the area. Guests with a dinner plan can have homemade Western or Asian meals at Lazy Bear Restaurant. Roast dishes or Korean hot-pot meal can be requested at an extra charge. Barbecue dinner can be arranged if requested at time of booking. The property also offers nightly drinks and entertainment.

Our favourite place to stay in Gunma! Kieren and the team feel always make our stay incredible! The lodge has heaps of games, a piano, a sauna and cold plunge bath (!), easy access to the river and Kieren is very helpful in helping arranging local water activities.

“Great bang for buck”
Clean rooms, friendly staff who were knowledgeable about the local town, terrain and backcountry, decent meals, amazing sauna and great atmosphere. Leaving was difficult.

“Well-run lodge close to Mt T ski slopes”
Great staff - owner Kieren worked very hard to make sure everybody was getting what they wanted from their stay. Comfortable room, with an ensuite bathroom (which I wasn't expecting). Cosy communal areas. A good breakfast was included, and dinner was available for 3000Y per person, which was excellent value. Food was tasty and served buffet style so you could eat as much as you liked. Free shuttle bus to and from the local ski slope, and to other nearby resorts if required. Shuttles to the local train station were also available. Back-country guiding was offered but there was no hard sell. I was expecting the atmosphere to be quite hard core, but it was actually very chilled, and there was no judgement if you didn't want to do the serious stuff. We also did a snowshoe tour along the valley which was beautiful.

What isn’t there to love about Tenjin Lodge… lovely comfortable rooms, great filling meals (and tasty!!) and wonderful people who go out of their way to make you feel at home - thanks Kieran and Bo, you’ve got the formula right!!

“Would go again for Minakami hiking”
Food excellent. Hospitality overwhelming; I was lucky to stay when only 5 guest present so Kieran (owner, chef, handy man, concierge) and Nana (sp?) were very good to me. Kieran even gave me a ride to Doai station (actually very short distance) to catch train upon my departure. Very beautiful area for hiking during my Autumn stay but I understand that Tenjin gets quite busy during Winter/skiing season.

Super friendly staff, thank you so much Nena for giving us the best tips for an unforgettable road trip :). Location is amazing, very close to ropeway with beautiful views. In the middle of beautiful autumn folliage and next to mountain river. Also great starting point for Onsen hopping and waterfall roadtrips. The staff can give the best advice on finding really special onzen :). AND: you can take a most relaxing hot bath at the Tenjin Lodge itself!

The ideal stay and feel of hotel for hiking Tanigawa. half-way point between Doai station and the ropeway station. Very knowledgable and friendly staff, great breakfast.

The lodge itself is great. I had a nice room with a balcony overlooking the mountains and the stream nearby. Easily reached by car or by a local bus. Lots to do nearby, from visiting the deepest train station in Japan to going on hikes. All in all I had a great stay. Big thanks to the host for making me feel so welcomed.

Kieran, the owner greeted us warmly and was very generous with use of the facilities( specifically the carpark for our overnight hike) It has a stunning swimming hole, as well as a wee surprise if you should walk across the bridge!

Beautiful lodge a stone's throw away from Tenjin with lovely staff, lounge, dining area and well-stocked bar. The rooms were a generous size and clean. We had room 306 which had a stunning view (through both windows) of the mountains surrounding the lodge. Hot meals available on-site (breakfast and dinner) with pre-booking. Good sized drying room and hot bath on site. Sauna in construction, which would be a lovely addition.
