Wonderful guest!

Hamid is an extraordinary guest. He was very flexible, always available for us and went the extra mile to address all our wishes. We loved the hiking on the dune at sunrise (see pictures), the dinner that he prepared for us and his company. We learned so much about the life in the desert, camels, culture and his personal story is also super interesting.

Very close to the dunes.l and a bit out of the way of the very touristy area which I liked l Hamid was very chill and helpful, came to meet me a good 10 min walk away and left me breakfast for the morning as I was leaving very early. Felt very safe and relaxed.

Desert Backpackers Hostel is not like the hostels you stayed in before for starters Hamid build the hostel himself, the walls are 30cm deep, I loved the feeling of living in that hostel, I could see the camels and the sand dunes from the window, it was very hard to leave. Hamid is from the area so is good for information about places to go and can be helpful in organizing things as he has many connections. I loved the breakfast every morning, am a coffee drinker but was converted to a tea drinker as the tea was great!

Hamid is a great host, helpful, friendly, resourceful and a very good cook above all that. I had a great time in his little hostel, got some good rest and enjoyed the view of the dunes. He knows the area by heart and gave me many cool recommendations on what to do around Merzouga, and even made it possible for me to spend one night in the desert and have my bicycle carried there by car. Thanks a lot Hamid !

Amazing place with amazing owner, right at the edge of the desert. Very cosy place with everything you need. I really recommend camel trip to Nomads with a night at the desert. It is an unique experience. Hamid can tell you a lot of interesting things about Berber culture and is really caring and will help you with everything. Stay there was the best part of my trip to Morocco.

Great stay, great host!

Hamid was a great host. He let us into the property at 6 in the morning, prepared us a great breakfast, helped us book a desert tour, gave us advice on how to get around in Merzouga, offered us a lift to the centre and dropped us at the bus station super early in the morning. The accommodation was great with a fully equipped kitchen and a very good shower. Even though the outside temperature was cold at night, the building was very warm and cosy and Hamid offered us an extra blanket just in case.

The hostel is very close to the bus station, about a 20-minute walk. It could be challenging to find it at night as the nighttime lighting is poor, and the hostel doesn't have any signage around it. Luckily, the landlord's brother came on a motorcycle to pick me up from the station. The hostel is actually a proper home. The landlord lives in one of the bedrooms while the other is set up with three beds for rent. Perhaps due to last month's earthquake, there have been very few tourists lately. Although I booked a mixed single bed, it turned out to be a private ensuite space. The day after check-out, I also arranged desert activities through the landlord, including sunset, sunrise, camel rides, and camping with a nomadic family. They said it's a group tour, but it was just me. Once again, I had a private journey. Wrapped in thick woolen blankets, enjoying the pleasant evening breeze, witnessing the vast desert night view, the visible Milky Way in the unpolluted starry sky, the moonrise and sunrise over the mountain ranges at the Algerian border - these were unique experiences in my life. Thanks to the landlord for an amazing desert journey!

Hamid is such a friendly and caring host. He prepares a good breakfast and provides a lovely home for travellers in Merzouga. Also, there is a bike you can borrow and get around pretty easily in the area.

Great Host, great house!

Hamid have been great to us and we had an awesome time there. The house is a bit out of Merzouga „center“ which make the trip to the desert even more convenient! If you have the luck to go with Hamid for a sunset trip, GO FOR IT!

The room and house are comfy, quiet and very clean. Location is good, away from the main road, with the dunes of Merzouga visible from the main door. Hamid made everything to make me feel at home. He speaks fluent English and Spanish and I learned a lot about the region talking with him. I would totally recommend staying at his place!

Everything was perfect! Hamid is the best host you can ask for

Staying with Hamid was an awesome experience. First, he was a superb host - met me & 2 other travelers in the bus station, cooked a really fantastic dinner for us even though we arrived late, and it was just cool to talk to him and he shared with us many interesting stories about life in Morocco. Hamid's place is superb too, compared to other backpacker places it has much better quality and I had the best sleep and shower in days in there. The place is located a bit away from the center of Merzouga so there is a really great village atmosphere there with no tourists around, yet everything is walking distance and you can see the massive dunes right when you exit the door. Hamid was also kind enough to hire me his bicycle for riding around and his breakfasts were delicious too. Absolutely 10/10 stay!

Staying with Hamid was the best thing that could happen to us while travelling in Morocco. He was exceptionally friendly and considerate and we felt very safe and like at home. Hamid was very supportive (for example concerning activities in the region) and showed us the real local lifestyle. Oh, and he's a perfect chef. Would recommend to anyone! Thank you so much for everything, Hamid!

Clean. Hamid was great host. In little time we had, he managed to take us for a evening stroll to dunes and we have had very nice dinner prepared by him and breakfast as per our dietary request.

Firstly, the owner: Hamid is a genuine person with demonstrated integrity and curiosity. Staying here I learned a lot about the locals and the culture, I also took an authentic tour to the nomadic family that he organised. It was an unique experience that I'd advise anyone to opt for. The desert sky is like no other I have ever seen 🌌 Facilities: You will stay in a typical Berber house where the owner lives too- thus be sure you come back home with a true memory of the real experience living with a local. The place is clean and taken care of. Hamid flexibly adapted to the breakfast schedule- don't take that for granted - it's usually the other way around in the other accommodations. Let's be real- Morocco is not the place where you find the best coffee in the world, but you'll be lucky to get a pretty good one here, served with your breakfast.

Great authentic place with a wonderful and welcoming host

Hamid is a very great host that really cares about his guests. I even got the chance to learn how to cook tajine and to learn some Spanish. And through this very authentic place I also learned a lot about the Berber culture as well as some part of the language. Of I come back to Merzouga I would definitely choose to stay with Hamid again! Thank you for the very great experience and days I had in Merzouga - it was definitely one of the highlights of my travels!!
