Beautiful guest house in authentic Berber village - with the best owner you could wish for!

First of all the village is worth a visit. You only get there by car, the road is an adventure itself. Megdaz is beautiful and authentic, not touristy at all, it‘s very far from touristy areas, in the middle of the mountains. Beautiful houses, beautiful nature. The guest house was amaaazing. Mohamed was extremely kind and was willing to help with everything. We learned some new arabic words and got to know more about Berber culture. Also they cook the greatest food. Breakfast was a blessing and so was dinner. The little terrace with a view on the mountains was very sweet. Very comfy beds. We would recommend a 100%!

Amazing guesthouse in the Atlas Mountains. Very traditional Berber village dating 1000 years ago! Mohamed is very friendly and always smiling. He explained to us the history of the village and its traditions. I also went for a hike to see the waterfalls the morning and it was beautiful. The food was very good!

A breathtakingly beautiful & unique part of Morocco!

Experiencing the village of Megdaz was an incredible experience! Wow. The Berber people, the mountains and landscape of the red clay houses, the donkeys, everything was like stepping back in time. The trek was breathtaking, quite literally due to the altitude but also the scenery was amazing. Mohamed and his family were wonderful hosts. The food was delicious and the bed was very comfortable and warm!

From the moment I stepped into Dar Megdaz, I was transported into a world of beauty, warmth, and incredible hospitality. The ambiance is absolutely stunning, with traditional Moroccan decor that immediately makes you feel like you’re in a luxurious oasis. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, always ready with a smile and eager to ensure I had everything I needed. It’s clear they take great pride in what they do, and it really makes a difference. The food? Simply amazing! Every dish I tried was packed with flavor and authenticity. The blend of spices and fresh ingredients created a culinary experience I won’t soon forget. Whether you’re visiting for a special occasion or just looking to enjoy a unique and unforgettable experience, Dar Megdaz is the place to be. Highly recommend it!

Truely unique place

Megdaz itself is remote. But don't let that discourage you as this was one of the best experiance we had in Morocco. The host - Mohamed is incredibly friendy and the location itself is unique, as it is old Berber village deep in high Atlas. Food was great and you can have all the comfort of a civilization (wifi, hot water) deep in this natural paradise. The views are breathtaking and the whole place serene and peacefull. We steyed just for a night (and tour next day) but seriously considered staying here for longer. If you don't mind a little bit of adventure and a hike, ask Mohamed for a tour to waterfall(aprox 3h). I would recomend some better shoes, but int the end we managed in city shoes and sandals. And the waterfall is well worth it. Be warned, while the hotel itself is not acessible via car, which can be safely parked at the end of the road in the village, And a small anecdote, as we were leaving, one of us forgot a bag (with his passport and money) and Mohamed not only called us to let us know, he also took car and took it towards us. So thank you once again for saving us and really hope to see you and this place again.

Authentic Berber paradise.. unbelievable natural pools.. incredible hosts

A little piece of paradise; incredible terrace views, wild swimming in natural pools, hiking to waterfalls, amazing breakfast and dinner.. 10/10 1) stay at least 2 nights 2) ask Mohammed for the guided tour to the pools and waterfalls.. 3) walk through the gorgeous gardens and chill on the terrace.. Megdaz is a 1000 year old Berber village high in the mountains, nestled in a stunning valley of stone terraces filled with fruit trees, crops and wild flowers.. Hidden away are the most incredible natural pools and waterfalls where you could easily spend a day sat by the side sunbathing and reading and having a refreshing dip or sit in the natural jacuzzi seats..easily the best I have ever been too, and for the more adventurous a hike to match back round the top of the valley with incredible views. Mohammed and his family are the most welcoming of hosts, the food is amazing and Mohammed is happy to tell you stories and explain the history of the village and the area. Went for one night, stayed for two, regret leaving 🤣

I didn't believe all the positive reviews at first - but I still decided to try Dar Megdaz and it did exceed my expectations. I immersed myself in living in the mountains. You sleep at 2000 altitude. Mohamed and his family are incredibly hospitable and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and pleasantly cold at night. You have enough blankets to sleep well. The shower is cold, so take it in the morning, not in the evening. Bring your shower gel and towel. The food seemed overpriced at the moment of booking, compared to other places. However, it did turn out to be the best food I've eaten in Morocco in a week. Maybe the views help but also at the altitude the food should taste more bland - I didn't feel that. The highlight of the breakfast was almond paste with argan oil. I loved it so much I asked Mohamed to sell me some. Also local butter is great but I can't describe it - you should try. The lunch was incredible as well, I loved tangia. I booked the lunch even though I had known that I wouldn't be hungry at that time. Hiking to the waterfalls using wikiloc is great. No one en route but beautiful nature. I also went to a nearby village of Imgiss as recommended by Mohamed. There I visited a widow with her daughter who have a lovely bunch of animals with whom I played. They offered mint tea, cottage cheese, cheese, home grown almonds and more. They didn't speak English but we still had a good time. On the way back, the grandma offered to walk back with me. She was outpacing me even though I had hiking boots and poles. The road through Atlas mountains to Dar Megdaz is incredible. I love fast driving on narrow mountainous roads, and I got there alright with Clio. The road is one lane wide for both directions and has a ton of holes and gravel patches. On top of that, a few shallow river crossings now in April. If you're not comfortable with risky driving, get a bigger car or drive slowly. You'll get there and will still enjoy the views.

We were a group of 4 friends crossing the High Atlas by foot! After we slept a few days in mountain shelters and caves we made it to Megdaz and it felt like heaven! Mohammed picked us up with a car and brought us to Dar Megdaz. And it was like heaven for us. Mohammed is such a nice person, he showed us around the village and explained us every part of Berber culture. His mother cooked for us and we had the most delicious food of all our Morocco trip. Mohammed and his family are so warm and friendly people! And the guest house was really beautiful, the terrace with a nice view and the comfy beds. If you come to the High Atlas, Dar Megdaz should be a priority on the list for you!

This stop has been one of the highlights of our trip. Mohamed and his family are very welcoming and take good care of the guests. The location is great, we did a hike before sunset and enjoyed all of the magnificent views in and around Megdaz. In the morning Mohamed showed us the town. Food was delicious.

Beautiful and authentic!

Muhamed was an extraordinary host. He literally went the extra mile(s) as he took us on several hikes around the village and the beautiful landscape in the area. Sure, it's a bit on the primitive side for some, but at the ridiculously low price it is an absolute "must" for any adventurous spirit who want to experience Morocco "of the beaten track". As a family traveling with two teens we haven't found any other place in Morocco that compares with this. It was as educational and interesting as it was beautiful.

Incredible, Unique Home-stay Experience in a True Berber village

What a beautiful, unique village! It's like nothing we've ever seen before, fully made from red clay. Mohammed and his family are super warm and welcoming. This is the only guest house in this little mountain village, at the end of a road deep into the mountains. If you want to experience true Berber culture, without tourists, this is the place to go! The dinner portion was super generous, natural and delicious. The bread made by Mohammad's mother was honestly the best we tasted in Morocco! The sound of the animals at night was also so peaceful. We slept like babies. Highly highly recommend experiencing this incredible place!

Incredible experience staying with Mohamed and his family/ Hervorragende Unterkunft bei Mohamed und seiner Familie

The stay in Dar Megdaz was incredible. It is a unique experience in a small, beautiful village with lovely people where you get to know the real Morrocan/Berber life and their culture. Our host Mohamed and his family did everything to make our time as good as possible: tours around the village, hikes and full time food supply! They were there for us all the time. Rarely have we met someone this hospitable. 10/10
