“Lovely guesthouse”

This is a lovely guesthouse in a cute little village within walking distance of the ancient ruins. The rooms were large, beds comfortable and the inclusion of a kettle and tea/coffee supplies was a nice bonus. Check in was easy, a lovely friendly lady welcomed us and showed us around. Great one night stay.

Spotless room with beautiful view over the archaeological site of Archaia Messini which is a few minutes away. Lovely interactions throughout our entire contact. Nice basic breakfast for a few euros on request. We chose not to park right at the property as it’s quite a steep narrow street to access the parking space by the accommodation. That saying there were 2 parking spots at the rooms. We found plenty of free parking in the square, a couple of minutes’ walk away.

A great location in the village, back from the main road, our balcony had a good view. The breakfast delivered to our door was delicious local produce. The room had everything we needed and was very spacious. The owner was friendly and helpful. Parking space was useful, close to our room. Great restaurant in the village.

Mavrommati is a small mountain village in the site of Ancient Messenia, the city founded by theban general Epaminonda in 369 BC after the defeat of Sparta when, according the tradition, he was inspired by some oracles about the coming back of Messenian people in their land. Great history happened around this wonderful ancient site, located in an intact natural landscape, with majestic stone walls that run over the mountains and the astonishing ancient Klepsydra spring at the center of Mavrommati. The commanding view of the ancient city and the Messenian plan from Mount Ithome is definitely one of the most emotioning experience for the lovers of antiquity and not only for them. Lykourgos guesthouse apartments, very confortable, are few hundred meters from the entrance of the ancient site (from the balcony of the apartments you can enjoy the view of the Doric columns of the heroon-mausoleum), where you can pass hours and hours, and the archaeological museum. Parking is really not a problem in Mavrommati and the local restaurant offers the best Messenian food.
