“We were sorry we had to leave and we wish to come back again.”
We picked Finsterau because we knew about the splendid cross-country skiing options, but there's much more to it: it's peaceful, unspoilt, friendly, set in a beautiful landscape. The info centre in Mauth is worth a visit to learn about the rest (such as the memorable Finsterau skansen - the Frielichtmuseum) and not just because you can enjoy the Dreikönigsloipe by the way. With Ferienwohnungen Krieger we were twice lucky: a spacy and comfy apartment, well equipped, including the kitchen, with a lovely view of the village and the mountains and valleys, a short walk to the village centre and to the perfectly kept trails, and very friendly and helpful hosts.
