“The warm hospitality and delicious food made for a truly inviting experience.”

Shintomi-tei is a traditional Japanese-style hotel that offers warm hospitality and excellent facilities. The hot spring is spacious and very comfortable, and the dining experience is superb. We were particularly impressed by the sumptuous meals, which featured different menus every day, as well as the ever-smiling staff. The location is also convenient, with easy access to nearby tourist spots. If we visit Matsushima again, we will definitely return to this hotel.

“Ryokan with a view”

Dinner was superb. But last dinner is at 1930. So make sure u arrive by then. Staff was very helpful. Give us directions to the temple n caves.

Location is good for it situates uphill. It has beautiful scenery. The breakfast is good. The hot bath is nice.

The view from our room in the morning was lovely! The hotel feels quite old-school, but we loved that atmosphere! Our room was spacious and full of light. The breakfasts were ample and delicious. The staff were unfailingly helpful and polite. I would definitely stay there again if I had the chance.

Old stylish hotel, Japanese style with onsen and nice bay view.

The room was large and clean, Japanese style, with mats, a low table and a sleeping area on the floor. The view from the window was simply breathtaking. Breakfast was quite tasty and varied. The staff tried to be helpful and polite. It was especially nice to receive detailed instructions regarding the hotel rules in English (which, for some unknown reason, many hotels in Japan ignore). The overall impression of this Japanese style hotel is quite good.

“Lovely stay with the family”

They had a family onsen where you could rent the place for 45 mins to have alone time with your loved ones for 2800yen. They also had their own public bath you could enjoy from 5:30am in the morning until midnight. I loved the fact that they had a shuttle to take you to the iconic tourist places

What was not to like? Clean, friendly staff, amazing food. The view from our room was gorgeous. There is a shuttle bus to help you getting to the stations.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They welcomed us like we are an important guest when we checked in. The breakfast was superb. At first, I thought it was a buffet but it was actually a Japanese set meal served in a private room, much better than expected.

Reassuringly old fashioned. The staff were equally old fashioned and excellent.

The staff Amazing Kaiseki-ryori dinner and buffet breakfast. Rooftop access gives a good view of the town, but limited view of the bay. The 2 communal onsens are good with the 2 baths rotating between male and female access for the morning and evening.

Most of all I loved how the staff treated us, they responded to all of our requests. Especially grateful to the dinner and breakfast manager. I appreciate them preparing vegan meals and taking into account all of our food restrictions. Location is great, within walking distance to all the main attractions. The Hotel has an open roof where you can enjoy a beautiful sunrise/sunset view in Matsushima.

“Good value for the price.”

The Japanese style breakfast was excellent and large, more than I could eat. Situated on a slight rise, there was a good view from our window on the third floor.
