Great size, beautiful view. Very clean. Handy to have the washing machine, and thoughtful things like plenty of hangers were appreciated. Nice and warm with the heaters on.

“Beautiful nature and peaceful surroundings”

We stayed in the lake side villa at North Star for four days as a family of four, and it was an incredible stay. The villa was huge, with two very large bedrooms, a good-sized bathroom and laundry, plus a very comfortable lounge room and kitchen area. It had everything we needed to prepare our own meals during our stay. The meals available for purchase were also excellent. The spaghetti bolognese and pork curry were the best. One of the highlights was waking up on our first morning to see wild monkeys outside our window. The property itself is beautiful and peaceful, with a lovely stream running through it. We stayed at the beginning of April, and it was very quiet, so we almost felt like we had the whole lodge to ourselves. There is also an amazing onsen located next door within walking distance, which made the stay even more special. There are plenty of walks nearby and we found North Star to be the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. We absolutely loved our stay and would happily return.

Location, staff, amenities. the beautiful surrounds busk walking bike riding trails peaceful secluded …. The Apartments was very spaciousness. The onsite meals and drinks were very helpful. The advice and casual chats were also great. The coffee the kitchen facilities having Netflix available. We loved the games and playing cards.

It’s spacious. Surroundings are relaxing with a stream in front of the accommodation.

Perfect location; close to the bus stop and there were a few cafes/restaurants near to the apartment. The apartment was very spacious, comfortable and it had all the cooking amenities needed and more. We did the full day snowshoeing/waterfall tour to Kamikochi booked through the Northstar website and it was an incredible experience. Spencer was really knowledgeable and friendly. We would love to come back in the summer as there are lots of hiking trails in the area.

The setting of this lodge was gorgeous. It was central to our walks and our trip up to the mountains. We wished we had stayed longer. The views were sensational. Great kids toys provided.

“Magical”

We loved this area. We only stayed 2 nights but would have liked to have stayed longer to explore this area more . The day we arrived in the area we were planning on doing the Zengorono and Sanbondaki Waterfalls but it started snowing and raining so the hotel very kindly let us check in early so we could get warmed up and put of the weather. We had a car so could get around easily. This accommodation was based around a visit to Kamikochi. This was the closest accommodation we could find at a price we could afford without having to stay far away in Matsumoto. This was a 17 minute trip to the Sawando No.3 parking lot where we were able to park and catch the bus into the park. That was a magical day. The accommodation had everything you needed. It was much better stocked than other accommodation on our trip. It had plenty of towels and face cloths, tea and coffee, cleaning supplies, shower supplies. It is unmanned by staff but there is a shop, you just purchase online and then go take it out of the fridge. They had some drinks and some meals you could heat up. My kids loved the apple juice. There's a washing machine which seems to have a drying function but I didn't use. Bedrooms are huge. Staff were lovely. Would definitely stay here again. This was magical location in Japan. And the accommodation building is gorgeous too. It was all very picturesque.

We were on a one month holiday in Japan and had already spent about 20 days staying mainly in hotel rooms with understandably confined space. So it was an absolute luxury to have so much space to ourselves in the apartment. It rained heavily at Norikura Kogen during our stay but that gave us opportunity to spend time in the apartment and do some cooking. The kitchen utensils are clean and adequate. We also loved the idea of having our own washing machine. The apartment is very close to Norikura Kogen Bus Terminal so it is ideal for early morning rides up to Tatamidaira. In all, we had a wonderful experience and have decided that this will be our choice lodging when we return to Nagano.

“Beautiful setting, very well equipped apartment, great for adults and kids alike”

We stayed in the mountain view apartment. It was excellent. Lovely view out over the stream. Our kids loved the free onsite activities - rock climbing wall, badminton and balls to kick around. Having a big outdoor space for them to play was fantastic. The apartment was very comfortable (especially the beds) and well equipped. Easy to cook. Warm. Quiet. We did the 6.5km Norikura Trail with our kids, aged 6 and 10. Quite a bit of uphill but the varied landscapes kept them interested. The Kumuru Cafe is located about 2/3 of the way along so we stopped for ice cream which helped give them a boost! The bear bells were also a source of entertainment 😊 but important as it’s pretty quiet around this area. The kids also did the high ropes course at Norikura Base which was good fun and great for a slightly wet day. If you want to use the fire pit at Northstar, it costs extra. Loved it and would happily return.

“Comfortable 3 night stay in scenic setting”

Beautiful setting in the mountains with several trails from the door. Just a 20 minute drive from Kamikochi bus pick up. Lovely onsen next door which also has a simple restaurant. Spacious one bedroom apartment on the first floor of an activity lodge. Another 2 bedroom apartment on the same floor, along with staff accomodation. Well equipped kitchen and laundry. Staff were friendly and helpful. Frozen meals were available if needed, veggie, pork curry and meat bolognese type...but we had provisioned in Matsumoto ( a must as very limited provisions in the immediate area). Snow capped mountain views from rooms and sighted a monkey outside. Nice ice cream over the road!

Location, staff and facility perfect for kids + exploring nature. We rented mtbs and took a good 10-15km trail with kids aged 8+12 - easy and good for 1/2 day.

My family and I had an incredible stay at NORTHSTAR Loft during the winter season! The location is breathtaking—nestled high up in the mountains, surrounded by pristine snow-covered landscapes. It truly felt like a winter wonderland. However, I’d recommend bringing some snacks or groceries, as choices can be limited.
