Overview
Established in 1887, Matsumoto Hotel Kagetsu is Matsumoto's oldest hotel. Building exterior, lobby, restaurants and shops have gone through renovation works in April 2016, and feature classic furnishings. Providing 24-hour front desk, it features a public bath, free-use bicycles and free property-wide WiFi. Well-appointed rooms come with both air conditioning and heating facilities. In-room conveniences include a fridge and a hairdryer. For leisure, guests can explore the town on a bike or enjoy massage services on request. Luggage storage and laundry services are available. Porter service is avaialble for guests staying in the annex building. Kagetsu Hotel is a 5-minute bus ride from JR Matsumoto Station and a 5-minute walk from the historic Matsumoto Castle and Nawate Street.

“Don't stay in the annexe...”
Free shuttle service to station was welcome, although times were limited. Onsen facilities were very nice. Breakfast was good with wide selection.

“Old but well maintained hotel very close to Matsumoto Castle, basic but good enough for a short stay”
The hotel feels aged, but is still well maintained. Facility feels adequate. Staff were generally helpful and friendly. Good enough for a 1 night stay. There are a few parking slots in front of the hotel, but it was reserved for a big bus when we were there. The staff guided us to another car park which is literally just around the corner. The famous Matsumoto Castle is just a few minutes walk away.

Location was good - just 5 minutes from the castle, and a 15-minute walk from the station. The onsen was good.

“A quiet hotel but everywhere is within walking distance. Feel Very relax”
The best part is the shuttle service that the hotel offers, even when I texted 2 hours before the scheduled pick up time to reserve. The staff were helpful in making recommendations for dinner and even made reservations for us. The location was excellent as the important amenities like Matsumoto station, Aeon mall, walking streets are within walking distance.

Great location! The staff were excellent and the reception and lounge areas are beautiful and very welcoming. While the room was spotlessly clean, it did feel quite tired and dated. We booked a small double room which was an acceptable size, but the bed was pushed against the wall, meaning only one person had access to a bedside table and light, which was not ideal for two people. Overall, it is fine for a quick one - night stay, but I would probably not choose it for a longer visit.
