We had a really lovely stay in Matsumoto Backpackers! We booked last minute and had no idea it was Irish owned. Had lovely chats with Brian who gave us some local and hiking recommendations! The location is really close to the train station and we were also able to leave out luggage there for a few hours before our next train

“Pleasant stay”

At first didn’t like the set up in old Japanese style house but then liked it a lot. Sleeping on futon,on the floor,nice windows,reasonably equipped kitchen,old style shower areas. Quite a lot of space as only four futons in reasonable size room. Very nice owner and staff.

Real backpacker's paradise. We can only recommend it.

The owner was extremely lovely, went through the best things to do in the city, and for later on in my journey. I could tell he really cared about what he was doing! A great environment for travellers.

Staff and owner were really nice, the room was okay, clean toilet and common areas. I was in a mixed dorm and it felt safe with luckily no one snoring lol :D

Great place to meet other travellers and is conveniently located near the train station. The staff was super friendly and there are recommendations on where to visit and what to eat.

Fabulous location very convenient to the train station, and walkable to the central district, plenty of wonderful places to eat nearby, staff were helpful with advice on their favourite eats. Comfy futon beds in a traditional private room.

“Matsumoto castle and samurai sword exhibition”

A really nice room, clean and quiet. Everyone was friendly. Reasonably close to the centre. The price was low. I saw they even rent camping gear for those going into the mountains

À great house very conveniently located, with Japanese-style rooms and a very nice owner who goes out of his way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

“Perfect for hikers”

Really spacious room and great location. Lovely traditional building - you may want to bring ear plugs if you’re sensitive to noise as the walls are paper thin, but that’s part of the charm of the building. We were greeted by a lovely volunteer who told us local recommendations. Most people were hikers so everyone went to bed early which suited us. Room was clean, and the futons were very comfortable.
