“Cosy small hotel, which could improve on small things, like free coffee at breakfast.”
A charming small hotel with a pleasant, but compact, onsen. The receptionist was exceptionally informative and helpful. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and made for a relaxing stay.

“Loved it!”
The room was cozy, comfortable and bigger than expected. I especially enjoyed the traditional elements and the garden view from the room. The onsen was very nice and I felt refreshed afterwards. The location was perfect for walking the length of the town. We fell in love with the charm of the magatama town. Beautiful at night and during the day. Natural foot baths ajoined to the river, cute cafes, delicious izakaya food, accessories and so many magatama that you will be enamored by. The history felt alive. I highly recommend this location to anyone!

“Fantastic alternative to the big, old-skool ryokans. Lovely little onsen town, too.”
Fantastic! Little towns like this will often have old-skool ryokans and cheaper alternatives (minshuku, hostels) that aren't nearly as good. This place is the perfect, more reasonably-priced, alternative to the big ol' ryokans. Was expecting a minshuku-looking place but, no, from the very first impression this was a lovely, big, beautiful place with a cool vibe. The staff were very sweet, the bath was small but much nicer than you'd expect for the price and the room was very spacioius indeed. Breakfast was dead good and the older gentelman who played the shamisen and told us tales of the area was lovely. Would 100% stay here again.

“Simple and great value, very friendly staff!”
Great value for a modest and authentic spot in the famous onsen town. Although their own baths are small, the water was very nice and you can easily walk up to the public onsen about 3 minutes up the road. The rooms are simple and pleasant tatami and futon with a small seating area. There is no dinner but a nearby izakaya can help you with that.

Great little onsen ryokan. Very nice lounge and they provide yukatas. Staff was exceptional, there was an elderly man who was manning the counter at night and he does samisen and Japanese folk performances every now and then. Was blessed to have witnessed a short performance by him. Would definitely recommend. Hots springs were excellent. Not too hot and perfect to soak in after a long day. Stayed in the super single room which was basically just a bed and some space. Was perfect as I didn't carry much luggage, but for those who have large trolley bags this is not the room for you.

Amazing. There was free shuttle to the nearest JR station. We didn't book the shuttle beforehand but we were able to take it anyway. The breakfast was amazing and the location is very good. Very close to the bus stop which we had to take because JR operations were suspended due to heavy rain. Value was so good.

The following comments are only for kasuien minami: The reception of this hotel is amazing. After arriving at the hotel from the shuttle bus, someone guided me to the place where the snacks were prepared and sat down. The cold and refreshing snacks and warm tea are very delicious , after the receptionist took my passport to complete the check-in procedure, he took me around the entire first floor, introduced the location of each facility, and took a bathrobe by the way (there are many colors and sizes to choose from). The room is relatively large for a single room, and there are two or three types of tea bags and refreshments in the room. Drinking water and pre-chilled cups are provided in the refrigerator, and the service is very attentive. The temperature and water quality of the large public bath and foot bath are very good
