“Best stay in Matsue”
From the host to the guest house by itself, every thing was so great. Emi-chan is such a lovely person, she had great recomendations to eat and drink. She made my stay better even though i was sick with a cold. The place is well équiped, comfy, roomy, next to the castle and a 8 minutes walk to nearby konbini or supermarket. I slept really well, the pyjamas was so comfy ! It was neat and so clean. I always enjoy staying in a japanese style house.

“Beautiful guesthouse close to castle”
My sister and I spent a wonderful 3 days at Kian Guesthouse in Matsue, perfectly located right next to the castle and plenty of lovely restaurants and nearby activities. Emi was an absolutely exceptional host, going above and beyond with so many lovely personal touches to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The house itself is a lovely, well kept, clean traditional house with tatami flooring and a tea ceremony room upstairs. Our room was very comfortable and quiet, and the shared kitchen and bathroom facilities were always spotless with plenty of space for the number of guests staying in the house. Overall we highly recommend staying here if visiting Matsue, thank you Emi!

“Everything was perfect especially the hospitality proffered us, thank you.”
Spotless home with lovely host who was interested in us as visitors and made us very welcome. Special treat to have the tea ceremony prepared in an authentic but relaxed way.

“Great place with a wonderful host”
This is the perfect place to stay in Matsue. Great value, great place and a wonderful host. If both rooms are available, see item 3 below re the difference. Tip: it's worth spending 5 mins reading the helpful suggestions from other guests in the guestbook. 1. Location - excellent, central and walking distant from restaurants and bars, while being in a quiet location. If you're coming from the JR train/JR bus terminal, you'll need to take a bus (or taxi). Note that as at Dec 2025, Google unhelpfully doesn't tell you which of the many bus stops you need to catch your bus from - however, Navitime does. 2. Host - Emi is a proactive and welcoming host. She checked on us regularly and is bilingual in English so we had some lovely conversations. Her suggestions and those of her previous guests in her guestbook allowed us to have a really full and interesting 2 days based in Matsue. This included great bar/restaurant suggestions - Cafe Puente quite rightly comes up in many people's suggestions. 3. Rooms - there are two. The larger ones is upstairs, however for two people we found the downstairs one just fine. We decided to stay in the smaller downstairs room because we didn't want to go up and down the stairs. However, there were no other guests during the time we stayed. Note that the downstairs room is where the kitchen, showers and entrance area are. The upstairs room is more insulated and probably quieter if both rooms are occupied. However, while we stayed during mid-December, thanks to the heating on timers in the room and the kitchen, it was never too cold. 4. Facilities - we had breakfast in the kitchen and found it to be perfectly equipped for our needs. There are two bathrooms (each with a shower and toilet), which means that even if both rooms are occupied, there would always be a shower and toilet available for each room. The shower had good pressure and temperature.

“Great location, clean and comfortable.”
A very nice location, close to the castle and other tourist spots within walking distance The owner was very friendly and helpful. She gave us lots of tips on places to see and restaurants. Before we arrived, she even messaged us all the relevant bus information. The room was large and beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. As we were the only guests, we really felt at home. I appreciate the opportunity to stay in a traditional Japanese house. Will definitely stay here if we are fortunate enough to visit Matsue and the beautiful Shimane region again.

“We'll go back to Kian on our next visit to Matsue”
This is a lovely guesthouse run by a highly dedicated owner. We knew Matsue from previous visits but the owner, Emi, opened up several new pleasures for us. For example, she arranged a visit to a soy factory-it's at least 150 years old-and also treated us to tea. The house is within easy walking distance to the town center and there is a very good bus service. The bakery across the street is a gem, combining innovative breads, whiskey and an excellent music collection. We had fabulous sushi at a restaurant close to the laundromat. The kitchen space is perfect for breakfast. We'd love to go back to Matsue and hope to stay at Kian again.

“just great”
Emi was a great host and we enjoyed our stay very much. The place is in a quiet side street next to the castle area so very convenient (and easy to reach by bus from the station). We came early and Emi made sure that everything is already ready for us and welcomed us with a tea ceremony. If we revisit Matsue one day I'm sure we will end up staying here again!

“Lovely guesthouse with the most amazing host!”
Great stay in a lovely guesthouse. Emi, the host, was amazing! She was super friendly and welcomed us with some tea and sweets. She had great tips for stuff to do around Matsue (she recommended this beautiful sunset watching spot!) and was overall a very gracious host. The room was very large and we just had the nicest and most relaxing stay in a long 24-day exploration vacation in Japan.

Excellent tatami room in a guesthouse in Matsue. It is close to Matsue Castle and well connected to other areas, including Matsue Station, by bus. There are some great restaurants about 10 minutes’ walk away and a nice bakery close by for breakfast. Emi-san is an exceptional host who is very welcoming and gives great advice to help you enjoy your stay. I would absolutely recommend.

“Japan differently experienced”
Emisan is amazing. She provided us with little gems about Matsue what to do, so we filled up all our 4 days we had in Matsue. The room was really nice and we had a little garden as well. The kitchen was nice and clean and you could reach everything by foot. She even has a small tearoom and she invited us to have Matcha tea and sweets.

“Great host, steps away from the castle, close to the restaurants and all for good value!”
The location was excellent, steps away from the Matsue Castle and a short walk from the restaurant and downtown area. Although we took a taxi from Matsue Station, there is also a bus that comes to the end of the street and is very convenient. Our host was excellent, very thoughtful and flexible. She gave us suggestions and recommendations and made us a reservation at a charming soba restaurant.
