When searching for accommodation, we specifically wanted something authentic and traditional – a real Austrian experience, not a luxury hotel. Matreier Tauernhaus was absolutely perfect for this. The bed was extremely comfortable, the food was amazing, and the staff were exceptionally kind, caring and helpful. We were very happy that they welcomed our small pet, and it completely melted our hearts that the staff even nicely arranged his own little bed and blanket that we had brought with us. The surroundings are simply breathtaking – I have never seen a more beautiful place in my life. Several hiking trails start directly from the guesthouse, which makes it an ideal base for exploring nature. I would recommend this place and the whole region to anyone without hesitation.

Everything. This place is fantastic. The breakfast was brilliant and had a lot of local produce. It's very close to the hike and the scenery is stunning.

Best place to start going up to Grossvenediger in the morning. Nice restaurant with local food, weekend parking for reasonable price just next to hotel. Quiet place to sleep.

This facility is perfect for people hiking in the nearby Alps. Super staff & facility, long-term parking in walking distance, & buses/taxis on-site for connecting trailheads. Ideal location.

Great location for hiking- highly recommend the glacier trail and 3 lakes path. Room was clean and comfortable. Most staff spoke good Very good English and were helpful. I didn’t get a chance to use the sauna but it looked nice. I paid 20 euros per day for half board (dinner) on top of my booking - definitely worth it - it included soup, salad, main and dessert. I did one “bar” meal and that cost $15 for just the main.

Great location near great tracks to the glacier. Great breakfast with a lot of tasty local foods. Very helpful staff. The bathroom was very big and well organized.
