Having travelled around Sri Lanka for a month and stayed in 12 different lodgings I think I can safely say that Turtle Eco Beach was the best. OK, not the cheapest, but I have definitely paid the same price for a lot less recently. The things I like about it: The room - it’s spacious and (most notably) clean! It’s not a whinge, just an observation, but Sri Lankan hotels and guest houses generally have a different concept of what clean means than European’s. Not so at Turtle Eco Beach. I think this is because the hotel is owned by a French man and he maintains the place properly, to a high standard. The garden/pool area - lovely! An oasis! Beautifully maintained and, again, clean. I swam often, and I don’t normally bother much. The staff - friendly and efficient. You can’t ask for much more than that. I wished I could have stayed longer.

Wonderful location opposite a beautiful beach with turtles and calm waters for swimming. Lovely 25 m pool in a nice tropical garden. The owner and the staff are so lovely and helpful. Simple, good breakfast - served quickly. No bar or evening restaurant if that's what you're looking for but loads of options less than a 5 min walk. Would recommend.

We really liked the location, being close to an important social gathering area is so nice. Central parts are easily accessible from the location, yet it's a quiet and peaceful place.

closeness to the beach ,with wild turtles. friendly staff , amazing room with outside private bathroom and air conditioning , mosquito netting , fridge, Wi-Fi near the reception was good . breakfast a bit westernised for my taste but tried to be as supportive as possible . helpful staff helped to organise trips out as well . office staff had good English

Lovely layout of chalets with pool in a lovely relaxed atmosphere and fantastic and freindly staff especially manager Chamara who went above and beyond to arrange our marriage , couldn’t do enough for us the hotel is right next to turtle beach to see turtles every day and see little turtles released into ocean is a bonus

Close proximity to the beach with turtles, great beach front restaurants. Room 4 had the best shower and hot water we’ve had over our three weeks of travel to date. Management was professional and communicated very well.

Staff members were friendly but I felt some reservation in their behaviour. The accomadation was very close to the beach.

“A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE FROM START TO FINISH”

BEWARE! We booked into this accommodation for 8 nights and only stayed one! The first issue we encountered was the owner requesting that we pay him in cash. He said his card machine was broken, yet we were staying for 8 days so this confused us… Did he think his card machine would be broken for 8 days? We checked in and then we were shown to our room…. we were shocked! The outside furniture was filthy and there were bars at the window, the whole room felt dark and dingy, but it was now around tea time so we decided to give it a chance. Sadly our impression only got worse. The room was small and dirty with dead flies on top of the net covering the bed and the whole floor area was sticky under foot. The air con didn’t work sufficiently well to cool the room. The outside pool area no longer presents itself like the beautiful pictures advertised, which were presumably taken some time ago. In our opinion the owner was rude. He was clearly annoyed and frustrated when we asked for assistance to unlock our room, (the explanation was that the door was just warped!). We asked if we could have two beers. They don’t sell alcohol but were happy for us to purchase our own from a local shop. We were given two glasses to use, one of which had a dead fly on the rim! In the morning after mulling everything over, we decided to leave… but not before the owner insisted we pay for the full length of our booking and threaten to call the police if we didn’t. The manager wasn’t there when we wanted to leave, and as their card machine was 'broken' we left a note with a member of staff, detailing our email address, and asking the owner to provide us with their bank details so that we could transfer the money. The staff member contacted the owner who wouldn’t accept this. He knew that a delay in us going to withdraw cash would cause us to miss our whale watching trip but he said this wasn't important and still insisted on cash.

The location is lovely and the staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Excellent location. Great friendly helpful staff. Lovely breakfast. Lovely room with a fridge and a safe and good mosquito netting on the bed if you wanted to sleep with natural ventilation.

“Lovely Beachside Hotel”

Great beachside location with a relaxed vibe. I loved the clean rustic feel of the room with the outdoor bathroom. This was the PERFECT choice for our 2 nights stay in Matara district.
