Spacy rooms with great tarrace right on the beach. Tarrace has long chairs to chill overviewing the ocean. Breakfast was amazing! Host is super nice & friendly. We had a very relaxing time there and were the only tourists on the beach.

The father and daughters that run the guest house are super kind. From the minute we got there with king coconut drinks and freshly chopped melon. G the he meals are incredible with freshly caught fish and prawns. Huge portions! Breakfast is different every day. The place is right on the beach. Beautiful sunrise and sunsets. If you want to escape the hustle of life come here. Dondra lighthouse is 5 mins walk away, as well as a supermarket.

We were surrounded by attention, warmth, and care from the very first moment. Every breakfast and dinner by the ocean left us with vivid impressions. Thank you for the cozy atmosphere — we left with the feeling that we had spent time among friends, only in a different culture.

What an incredible place. Right on a beach with no one else there, the location is hard to beat. We had the best food we have had the whole holiday . The breakfast and dinner were amazing and such a friendly family. Sleeping with the sound of the ocean and a short walk from the lighthouse

The perfect place to escape the crowds, enjoy a beautiful sea view, and experience a Sri Lankan fishing community. The rooms are basic but super clean and have everything you could need: mosquito net, fans, towels, bottled water,... The family is so welcoming and prepares lovely food. Dondra with its beautiful lighthouse is worth the visit.

2 nights stay room have common balcony which give on to the beach view. beach is not touristic and more of a fisherman village area but it’s so authentic! breakfast is the best we had in Sri Lanka! wifi worked very well. location is great too about 10min walk to lighthouse and from city center / temple. relaxing retreat guaranteed. didn’t have much issues with insects in the room surprisingly

Lovely sea view from room and balcony. Proximity to two almost private beaches. Rustic homestay experience, in local neighbourhood. Wildlife everywhere. The host family were fantastic and extremely kind. Breakfast and optional dinner were made from the heart, varied and plentiful.

“An ideal place to escape the tourist scene”

I have travelled for over 30 years and this is undoubtedly one of the best value-for-money homestays I have been to. The family are so kind and generous. Their comfortable home is on the beach, with views out to a beautiful bay. You can watch fruit bats and parrots roost at night and the sunrise from your bed! Turtles sometimes lay their eggs at night here but I was too lazy to stay up. Breakfast is amazing: lots of fruits and a variation of pancakes, patties, eggs, coffee etc. Bottled water is also freely available. Good fans and mosquito nets. Sam is a great host. His daughters were home at Xmas and they were wonderful too. You can swim well in the sandy bay or visit the beach below the lighthouse, 10 minutes away, where there is a cool bar with a swing and hammock over the water. I prefer the non-touristy side of things here and chatting with locals. I visited Dickwella today to suss out the next place to stay but it was far too touristy for me, so I returned to Dondra to stay even longer.

Great location overlooking the beach and in a friendly village . Clean room. Nice to walk up to the Dondra lighthouse . Amazing breakfast , one of the best on our trip and varied the two days we were there .Dinner was fantastic and great value . Very large portions . Host was very helpful with everything . A great place to stay to experience real Sri Lankan life away from the tourist areas .

This place is a little gem. Right in front of the beach, it is an oasis of peace far away from the busy touristic places. Here you get to experience lovely authentic Sri Lankan neighbourhood. The hosts were very friendly and kind. The father was the sweetest man, always being very caring and offering us teas, water and food. Oh my God the food is amazing, and the amount, I wished I could have 3 stomachs to fit it all in. Higly recommend it. Thank you very much Only suggestion is to install an A/C in the room for the hottest days :)

“Paradise.”

Fantastic homestay situated in one of the prettiest bays in Sri Lanka. The room was very good and clean with a wonderful view of the colourful fishing boats. The family looked after us very well and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was varied very tasty and the portions were huge.. It's only a short walk to the lighthouse and the little town where the temple is worth a visit. Wish we had booked for longer. Hopefully will return next year.

First and foremost, Sam and his family are exceptionally good hosts. The Inn itself was on the beach,any . you would be in the sea! The inclusive breakfast not only sets you up for the day but possibly puts you back to bed because there's so much of it. Apparently, there's no translation for portion control! Also, no breakfast was the same over the 7 days that we stayed,originally booked for 5. It's that good. The evening dinner was an extra, but well worth it. “Friendly stay at quiet fishing beach , sound of waves.”

Great location steps away from beach where you can swim, mainly fishing boats around. The room was very simple, spacious and clean. The host (unprompted) brought in an extra plug in fan to help cool the room. There was a ceiling fan. That was much appreciated. All very uncomplicated , former family home that has not been boutiquified. Bathroom shower has better water pressure than many expensive hotels! Shared large terrace / balcony was not an issue for us; friendly couple staying in other toom. Food here deserves a mention ; we thought it was exceptional. Father & son host were very helpful providing lift/ taxi themselves to whale watching & to onward destination. The rating would have been 10 if some signage to help find it :) and (we are not worried at all re fancy decor) but for comfort air con would be a great investment for future.

Exceptional hospitality, our hosts were extremely helpful, friendly and funny made us feel very comfortable and part of the family without being intrusive. Food was excellent 👌 both quantity (enormous!) and variety. Location is right on the beach with large verandas in the centre of a traditional fishing village.
