I arrived in last days so packing up was going on and pool not usable but it had a big kitchen and the staff were friendly and the balcony was a plus.. walkable to the beach

“Shockingly Dirty ‘Family Rooms'”

Dogs are allowed. (It was difficult to find nice apartments in Matala for four families and a dog, which is why we chose a hostel - unusual for us.) Nice pool and breakfast area by the pool (though there’s no shade from the sun in the morning). Late checkout (until 1:30 p.m.) was free of charge. Staff was generally helpful.

Visited for a night in the private room. Was clean and quiet (shoulder season?). Decent value for what you pay compared to other places. Friendly staff

The pool was a bonus. The staff are very inclusive. A very sociable place. Lots of sunbeds. A decent kitchen. Beer and water sold on the premises.

10 mins from the beach, but other than that theres not much else here. matala has a lot of influence from hippies sadly but the caves are interesting. the red beach is really nice, i think watching the sunset there or on the small mountain nearby is ideal. its a 20 minute hike or so, depending on your fitness level the staff at matala are almost exclusively people who stayed here but decided to work for the hostel so they dont have to pay. some people stayed at the hostel for months on end like this and i dont understand their reason for this.

It's a lovely town for people that want to go to rest and disconnect. The hostel is a bit far from the town center but its better so the noise of the bars dont bother the zen vibe of the place. Will love to come back some time

“It’s still my favourite hostel in Crete”

I like the old building with high ceilings, creative wall paintings, breeze and music in the lounge, it’s spacious and pleasant to chill. Volunteers were very friendly.

Dirty, disorganised, bed got taken twice because it was allocated to two other guests, the facilities were dirty and not maintained.

A great vibe, a transformational space, a place of fun and light, the staff interact and are extremely helpful, a very close knit family feel, a nice mix of people of all ages from children to grandparents. Many outings ranging from cliff jumping to fire nights on the beach. Nice music, great pool and various games are played throughout the day. I observed many people extend there stays or leave and return, the best hostel I have ever stayed in, thank you Matala Hostel!

It was very conveniently situated, near the beach and restaurants. It was a great stay for our family of five in a family room. The staff were very friendly.

I travel in many countries in the world. I saw snow volcans high mountains amazonas etc At the end. What is most importent everywhere and no metter where its the people.
