Hotel Sofia is in a quiet area of Matala, yet close to the centre and its shops, bars and restaurants. It is just 50 metres away from the sandy beach and 20 minutes from the famous Red beach. The small family run hotel offers rooms with air conditioning and refrigerators. Each has its own private bathroom with shower and WC, and balcony or terrace. The large common courtyard is available and offers seating areas to cool off and relax. Here guests can have an a la carte breakfast menu or enjoy a cold drink after a hot day on the beach. A shaded parking lot is available for guests to park their vehicles. A reading corner with books is also available. Staff at the front desk can arrange taxi transfer from and to Chania and Heraklion Airport upon surcharge.

Right on the beach, in the artisan village. Free parking at the end of the street. Tastefully decorated. A lemon tree under the balcony - you can touch ripe lemons. Wonderful vibe!

If you want to immerse yourself in the quiet, peaceful, and authentic side of Greece, I highly recommend this hotel. We spent two wonderful days there. The authenticity of the place truly impressed us. The breakfast was excellent, and the hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming. The sea is just a 3-minute walk away at a leisurely pace. I hope we’ll come back someday for sure ☺️

We were lucky to find a hotel in Matala in a short notice, so Hotel Sofia was it. The hotel is comfortable and centrally located. We did not miss a thing there. There is a covered parking lot in the end of the street. Matala is such a nice place to visit. Surely recommend.

“Expensive but really nice stay in Matala”
The room was spotless clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The staff was also very kind to us. It is located in the centre of Matala and has accesible parking really close by, if you park 5 minutes away, in the road coming to Matala, you can have free parking. We also had a small terrace which was very helpful if you want to dry your clothes after a beach day.

This was our second stay in the apartment on the top floor. We had another amazing stay in Matala. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. People have mentioned in the reviews about the poor water pressure in the shower. This has clearly been sorted out and the water pressure in the shower was great. The sun beds on the roof terrance (which is only for those staying on the top floor) were replaced this week and were a very welcome addition). There is now a gate to the top floor which maintains the privacy of the roof terrance. Thank you.
