Loved the donkeys, very quiet isolated place.Unfortunately the wife was not feeling well so she only managed to give us dinner for the first night.Stayed three nights so it was a slight inconvenience to have to go out for breakfast,lunch and dinner.However the family running the place we're really kind and even though not well they let me use the washing machine and even hung my clothes out because I was off getting breakfast.

You get a tour of the donkey sanctuary and can feed the donkeys. Had a lot of fun! Room was clean and breakfast was very good. Help these guys out, they are doing a great job with helping the unlucky donkeys and the local comunity. Very friendly and helpful owners who can also organise bird watching activities.

“Excellent Stay”

Location and hospitality.

This place is just amazing! The room is clean, comfortable and has everything you need. There is breakfast, lunch and dinner available which is just incredible. The whole team is super friendly and helpful, especially the owner. We got a presentation and tour of the donkey clinic and the work they do here for the animals. Their dedication to the donkeys is just incredible. Mannar is a really good place for birdwatching. With the tip of the owner on where to go we even managed to see flamingos. Can only recommend staying here!

I stayed for two nights and had a very nice time. Birdwatching in this area was my only interest. It's run by a lovely family and the owner turned out to be a very good birdtourguide himself. In the early morning he took us out watching in the nearby reserve. Furthermore the stay offered a basic room, motorbike rental to explore the rest of the island and probably the best cooked meals I tasted in Sri Lanka 🙏 My time here was well spend and the location is easily reachable by public busses and renting the motorbike was a good option for me to explore the rest of the island in one day. Value for money is outstanding. Oh, they have donkeys and I fell in love with them eventually and so will you...

Nice place to stay and explorer the city

Clean and comfortable room. Amazing delicious local food. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Calm and beautiful property. And what these guys are doing for the Donkeys and other animals is just amazing. Support them and stay here, it's absolutely worth it!

“Would go again!”

The clinic is amazing, so are the hosts. It’s a bit of a random location on Mannar Island with all points of interest about 20-30 minutes but so worth staying here a night or two. They also made us brilliant food and the room was super comfortable too.

The donkeys were so tiny and cute. The accommodation was comfortable and very good value for money. The evening meal was huge and delicious.

Very friendly, helpful staff and an interesting insight to this worthwhile charity. Accommodation was adequate and value for money. Meals cooked by the family were truly delicious. The area around nearby lagoons was excellent for bird watching.

This is a great place to stay. The rooms are beautifully clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helped me with many things. I arrived early so they quickly cleaned my room for me, they helped me organise a tuktuk to the train station at 4am on my day of departure, they organised a lovely meal for me, and made sure I could find my way around the peninsula. The stay was very good value as well. Having the donkeys around is really beautiful, and you can spend as much or as little time as you like with them. Each one has its own personality!

Warm welcome by the owners. It was very nice to be part of a beneficial animal welfare project. We did get a presentation about the donkey Clinic And Education center and after a tour around. You can pet and feed the donkeys. The room was very comfortable with both fan and ac. Tasty meals can be ordered. We wish the owners the very best with their incredibly good work!

“Wonderful experience for animal lovers”

This is an unforgettable experience where you stay inside the donkey sanctuary. You get to feed, stroke and brush the donkeys here. The sanctuary is located in the midst of nature. The staff are very friendly and do their best to help you in any way. The room is comfortable and clean enough, given that this is a working donkey sanctuary. The manager wasn’t here when I visited so I didn’t find out much information about the sanctuary or taste the home cooked food (which apparently is usually delicious). However I am very glad I visited and would recommend it to animal lovers.

“A rare place to stay :)”

Very nice place, where the donkeys are well treated (and visitors as well). Very good and local food (we had breakfast & dinner there). The staff is nice and halpful.

Incredibly wholesome experience, got to hang with the donkeys and the family that selflessly care for them. Beautiful peaceful place with delicious homemade dinner and breakfast, great conversations and a highlight from our trip.

This is a very worthwhile endeavour that desperately needs funds and support . I urge everyone to visit not necessarily to stay but to see what Hathir is try to achieve. The Mannar donkeys are absolutely adorable very tiny and wander about everywhere. Of course they get hit by cars and then are brought here where if their injuries aren't to severe they are nursed back to health . Even if you just visit please donate generously !!!

“An interesting place to stay, with friendly hosts.”

The English speaking staff were very kind and welcoming. Breakfast and evening meal were available on request, with ample portions of Sri Lankan freshly cooked food. An interesting presentation given about donkeys on Mannar and the work of the sanctuary. Our host spent time locating flamingos for us to see. Good wifi. Fan cooled bedroom with mosquito nets.

If you like animals, you should stay here for at least 1 night. You can pet, feed and even groom the donkeys. The owner also tells you everything about the donkeys in Mannar. Really amazing place

“Amazing, lovely people, lovely place”

Lovely property, good spacious clean room. The owners are absolutely amazing! Couldn’t do enough for you and delicious food! Also the work they do for the local community is unmatched. Would 1000% recommend. Not forgetting the donkeys! They’re so well cared for and they have a brilliant emergency team who rescue donkeys from car accidents etc. ps. Have extra chickpeas for Delilah
