“Exceptional, unique, personalised, memorable.”
Abrigo Cantareira is not for everybody… just for people who love nature, simplicity, exceptional home-cooked food, relaxation and personalised and exceptional care and attention. All within a short drive of São Paulo and the international airport. Mell and Marcelo literally built this place with their own hands. The care and attention they put into their guests - being as welcoming and chatty and friendly as you like, or giving you space and quietude if preferred - builds on this ‘homegrown’ philosophy. They have jams made from fruits in the garden, home-baked cakes at breakfast courtesy of Mell, and traditional home-cooked meals courtesy of Marcelo. Within a very short walk is one of the premier climbing destinations in the region - a disused quarry with huge sheer cliff faces, and a lake at the bottom - which affords beautiful views from the top. I had a guided tour of the quarry from the youngest member of the family - M - who kindly chose to practice English with me to save me the humiliation of having to having to struggle with limited Portuguese. I am so glad I found this place - watching the sunset from my little chalet, with a cold beer from the fridge, was the perfect way to spend my last night in Brazil before a long flight home.
