“Disappointing Experience at NH Collection (Abascal)”

I chose this hotel primarily for its proximity to the marathon starting line and its high ratings, but unfortunately, it did not live up to the premium price tag. The Pros: The bed and pillows were genuinely comfortable, which is essential before a big race. The location is also convenient for runners. The Cons (Room Quality): The hotel feels quite dated. For a "Collection" property, I expected more modern amenities. • Outdated Tech: The TV was not a smart TV, and the coffee machine was an ancient model. • Maintenance Issues: The showerhead in our room was broken and wouldn't stay upright. • Poor Layout: Despite the square footage, the room design was inefficient and cramped. I’ve stayed in much smaller rooms in New York that felt far more comfortable and functional due to better architecture. The Management/Service (The biggest issue): The most disappointing part of our stay was how they handled a family emergency. A friend traveling with us had to cancel at the last minute because his mother suffered a brain hemorrhage and was placed in intensive care. Despite the gravity of the situation, the hotel was completely unhelpful. We were repeatedly told that "the manager would call," but they just kept stalling. In the end, they refused any refund or gesture of goodwill. Between the aging facilities and the lack of empathy from management, I will never stay at this hotel again and certainly would not recommend it to others. There are better options in the city that offer both modern comfort and better customer service.

The staff extremely nice and helpful, especially the ladies at the breakfast! Amazing! Breakfast with many great options, delicious food. The room is really spacious and clean, bed comfortable. I appreciated free bottle of water every day. Great internet connection.

The quality of the breakfast was normal for this type of Hotel. One excellent thing was the quietness of the room (on the fifth floor), The building seemed almost new, and it was very good-looking. The size of the room was adequate, the double bed very good as well as the quality of the sheets.

Comfy bed, good shower and a proper hairdryer. Great breakfast too.
