Overview
Al Mulino is set in a historic renovated windmill, just outside of Maasmechelen and 10 minutes from Maastricht by car. The beautiful windmill is listed as a national monument and can be visited for free. This modern accommodation comes with free WiFi. We stayed at this hotel last night, and unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the price we paid (€170 for the night). The biggest issue was the bed, it was incredibly uncomfortable. You literally feel like you’re sinking into it, as if the mattress is worn out or poorly designed. And it wasn’t just one bed, both of the side-by-side beds had the same problem. For this price point, that’s simply not acceptable. On a more positive note, the restaurant was good, and the manager was friendly and welcoming. But when you book a hotel, the main expectation is a good night’s sleep, and sadly, that just didn’t happen here. Disappointing.

“Last year, great. This time, SO disappointing!”
I liked the breakfast, it was good, but I didn't like having to choose what I wanted to eat the next morning, the moment I arrived. We were presented with a tick sheet and, as there was only one other person, I guess they didn't want to put food out for us to select. The time given for breakfast was 9:00 - 10:00, not good if you need an early start.
