This place is a real gem. Every small detail was thought about. The rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean. Simon and Tisha and their wonderful staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Even when we turned up early due to our transport changing (sorry!). The food was some of the best we have ever eaten. Tisha if you ever write up a cook book let us know and we will be the first to buy it. 🥰 We did a tour of the farm. Simon is so passionate about the project, it was amazing to see. Massive congratulations to you for all your hard work, you have created something so special and inspiring. Pool area was fabulous. It was an oasis of calm in a very busy trip for us. We all loved it and can’t recommend it enough.

“Felt like a wellness trip”

The B&B is a hidden oasis - I loved everything about it. The hosts are amazing, and the food is phenomenal, too. I stayed an afternoon there, and it was probably the most relaxing part of my entire Borneo trip.

Staying at Haks feels like staying at friends in a big house with a pool. It’s an oasis in the middle of the town with a nice pool to cool down in . Beautiful decorative plants around and very attentive people to make you feel welcome. Simon can arrange day trips as we did snorkeling. The breakfast and dinner was delicious and made with great care with products of their own farm. A visit to the farm was an eye opener. Because the owner shows local farmers to use the land in a way so they can harvest many more crops without the need of fertilizer. Really something to think about in the world of palm oil production.

“I think it was the best place I have ever stayed!”

What an absolute gem of a place to stay!! My husband and I, and our two adult children, stayed in Simon and Tisha's beautiful home for four nights, resting between two busy tours. And we have never felt more welcome or well looked after. We were welcomed with a beautifully presented cold drink on arrival, and shown to our spacious rooms with good airconditioning. The gardens are beautiful and the delightful pool is a welcome relief from the tropical heat. A cool drink arrives within minutes of you resting beside the pool. There is an upstairs balcony where you can relax, surrounded by orchids, and an indoor sitting area with tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was different every day, two courses, beautifully presented and delicious. The evening meals were so special, we decided to have three of the four meals there as we could not imagine finding anywhere else serving anything remotely as wonderful. Simon and Tisha were so attentive, and answered our multitude of questions about Borneo and especially about sustainable farming. We went with Simon to see his farm, and it was wonderful to see some of his produce in our meals each evening. Thankyou for sharing some of your limited supply from your first crop of cocoa beans when you included chocolate in my surprise birthday banquet, served in the romantic area by the pool. And thankyou also to the lovely ladies working there, each and every one was so lovely. I would seriously love to have another holiday in Borneo, just so I could return to Haks Boutique BnB!

“An experience in itself! Can not recommend enough”

I would honestly struggle to describe this place without using superlatives. The owners and all their staff are so knowledgeable about sustainable farming and the food they grow and serve, and they explain things well in English. The food was fresh, healthy and very tasty, and they took the time to explain ingredients and where things come from. They did not just accommodate our dietary requirements, one gluten free and one vegetarian, but went much further. They grind their own bean and lentil flour and made me gluten free roti and a pancake, which was really special. We were very grateful for that - thank you again. Even less would already have been appreciated. The place is very clean, comfortable and calm. Huge rooms, very smartly equipped with enough storage space (also in the bathroom). There are no single-use cups. The water gets served with fresh lemons and limes. Tea, black as well as mixed white coffee are available all the time. It is an outstanding spot to relax before heading to the jungle or the coast that is actually an experience in itself. The photos do not really do it a justice. There are many spaces to sit and unwind, both inside and outside the house, all with shade and either fans or AC. Pickups also worked smoothly and the drivers knew the place. Overall it feels like a relaxed home, but is run with professionalism, care and by very warm people.

A haven of peace with friendly and charming staff. Enjoyed fantastic food in the garden. The pool is great for cooling off. The hosts explain the meals carefully and answer any questions patiently. Definitely THE place to stay - and eat - in LD.

We had an absolutely incredible time staying at HAKs and are hugely grateful to Itisha, Simon and their whole lovely team. The food we ate was truly outstanding and we felt so well looked after. We were extremely sad to be leaving!

The hospitality was amazing. The food was awesome, excellent for someone with dietary requirements like coeliac disease and other intolerances. The flavours and presentation were top class.

“Amazing stay”

Tisha and Simon created such a little beautiful oasis in lahad datu. My mom and I felt very welcomed and sincerely enjoyed our stay here. They are so passionate about their place and it was interesting to hear their stories. Simon arranged a snorkeling/ diving trip with this local guide, Dominic, which was great. We were the only ones on the reefs besides a few fishing boats. The food at the BB was amazing, we really enjoyed the laksa the first night and the breakfast with fresh sourdough, mushrooms and pesto. Yes it is more expensive than eating at a local Malay place, but high quality food made with a lot of care and ingredients from their own farm. The staff are all great and the pool and garden was beautiful. They even sang me a birthday song, when they found out it was my birthday the day before. Once again, big thanks!

We had an absolutely amazing stay in Lahad Datu truly unforgettable, even though it was only for one night! Everything exceeded our expectations. The food was hands down the best we had in all of Sabah fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality natural ingredients. The pool was incredibly refreshing, perfect after a long day. One of the most special touches was the natural passion fruit juice they served us so fresh and delicious! You can really tell they care about using natural products, and they even offer some wonderful natural items for sale. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. They went out of their way to assist us in finding good transportation, which made our trip so much easier. We truly felt welcomed and taken care of. I would definitely come back again without hesitation. The only regret is that we stayed for just one night — I wish it had been longer!

“Wonderful and welcoming.”

We had the best stay at HAKS. We were welcomed with the most delicious cool drink and instantly felt at home. The hosts couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome. The room was lovely and had all we needed. Other than the warm welcome, the best thing about HAKS was the absolutely delicious food. It was all prepared with such love and thought and with so much of the produce being grow on their own farm. The supper was one of my top meals ever! I can’t recommend HAKS enough. It’s worth a special trip.

Wonderful boutique B&B: you really felt at home. The room and pool and location were great but what really stood out was the food. It really was the best meal I had in 2 months of travel. Trisha and Simon were also really helpful in arranging a taxi to take us to our next destination. Highly recommend.

“Stay and dine if you can”

We loved the amazing hosts and staff. From the welcome drink, ice water service while lounging by the pool, and farm to table dinner and breakfast, we loved our stay. We were sorry we only stayed one night. Also a short Grab ride from the airport. Do have dinner if you stay, it is incredible.
