Overview
With its two secret beaches, on-site trails and tropical gardens, Balenbouche Estate is a renowned natural heritage site that offers vacations and retreats off the beaten path yet within 20–30 minutes of most of the island’s popular attractions. Six eco-friendly cottages (Calabash, Waterlily, Frangipani, Almond, Banyan and Moringa) are shaded by trees and cooled by the tropical breeze. Each cottage includes Wi-Fi and a kitchenette (equipped with a small fridge, kettle, stove, French press and basic cooking utensils), solar-powered hot showers, mosquito nets, standing fans, bed linen, towels and a private outdoor seating area. Guests can enjoy personal tours of the property and discover all that this officially designated natural heritage site has to offer, including an 18th-century sugar mill, nature trails and beaches, a river, pastures and organic vegetable gardens. Animals include cows, horses, cats, dogs, tortoises, many bird species, bees and other wildlife. Families, couples and single travellers who love the outdoors and are seeking an alternative to the typical resort environment will find themselves quickly feeling relaxed and at home. For meals, there are several options. We offer a daily breakfast, a dinner on the day of arrival (please let us know in advance), and a weekly buffet-style dinner in our historic, 180-year-old plantation house. All meals are freshly prepared using largely local ingredients. A rustic barn has been converted into a yoga studio and is free for guests to use. Private yoga classes can be arranged, as well as massages, meditation and other healing therapies. Many come to the estate to relax, reconnect and simply enjoy being present again. Balenbouche is a great starting point for exploring the peaceful and authentic South of the island. Public transport is available right in front of the property, and taxis and car rentals can be arranged. A village with a beach, fruit stand, small convenience store, bar and BBQ is within walking distance. The two fishing villages of Laborie and Choiseul are within an 8-minute drive, offering supermarkets, hardware store, ATM, bakery, bars, street food and restaurants. The driving time to Soufriere is 30 minutes; to the UVF airport 20 minutes; and to Castries 90 minutes.

Uta keeps up a place rare to find in southern St Lucia, close to key locations to visit and explore and away from the noise and the resorts which unfortunately occupy the best beaches on the island. A nature-friendly approach is the philosophy of Balenbouche which is exactly what we needed to relax and enjoy our holidays. Keep it up that way!

“Delightful and tranquil stay in stunning lush St Lucia tropical gardens”
Balenbouche Estate really is a peaceful nature paradise. We stayed in Almond cottage (family of 4) and it was idyllic. A great space for the four of us. Private, but open to the sounds of nature - the perfect way to relax. Wandering around the grounds is a treat too - we went down to both of the local beaches, just to explore. So many beautiful trees and flowers - we were fortunate enough to have a tour from Uta, the owner, who has so much to offer in terms of her knowledge and insight. We had a car which made exploring the surrounding local area easy. The local village is walkable and you can buy delicious street food. We ate at Balenbouche Estate on our first night (order in advance) and it was delicious. If we went back to St Lucia, I would absolutely want to stay again. We are an animal loving family so enjoyed visits from the dogs and the cat! Highly recommend if you're looking for tranquillity and natural beauty.

Very unique accomodation, interesting and welcoming host. If you are looking for a place like no other tis is it. We travelled with our two teenagers and they also love the place, especially friendly dogs on the property. Dinner served at the property was the best food we had so far in St. Lucia. Local, home made and deliciuos.

“Unique and a quiet place to stay and relax in beautiful surroundings.”
It’s uniqueness- a quiet location in beautiful grounds. Loved the wooden ‘shack’ it was a great escape where we could just recharge our batteries. Close enough to the village and the local town but would need transport. Lovely hosts - it was nice to have the option of dinner and breakfast. Dinner on the first evening was great as we landed late and it took a little pressure of finding somewhere. Would stay again

“A haven of peace and wildlife”
Staying in Almond Cottage , surrounded by nature, the breeze wafting through the open air windows, the moon shining on my head in an open air shower with cacophony of dusk sounds. Large , spacious and airy. Very comfortable, clean and simply equipped for cooking. Surrounding grounds a delight to explore, 2 private beaches, historic remains of sugar mill, nature in abundance, a riot of lush vegetation, colour and sound. Yoga in a historic barn. What a setting. Breakfast served on the veranda of the main house with a resident humming bird . Delicious dinner served a couple of times. But most importantly Uta and Verena embody the spirit of something very special with knowledge, dedication, hard work and passion. Nothing was too much trouble , with calmness and serenity. Thank you to you both and your team for a wonderful stay.

“A rustic treat not for the white cabana on the beach crew”
Well it was just beautiful, gorgeous site, pretty cottage , happy animals , comfy bed . The grounds are a treasure and it was so nice to feel an authenticity about the place . We knew what we had signed up to and Uta the host is approachable and kind . She’s a force of nature really. Close to laborie where we loved the little beach … quiet no one there to bother us , lovely sand , safe .

“All in all, the stay was great.”
The Balenbouche estate feels like a place from a bygone area. The grounds and the house are picturesque, and a very different experience from modern hotels. Host was lovely and super friendly / kind, breakfast was good but I thought it was included in price and only realised when final invoice arrived that it cost $15 per person per day.

“Fantastic place and friendly hostess, highly recommended.”
The cottage was a beautiful little rural shack in the jungle like estate, absolutely perfect for us. As cat lovers we very much appreciated the friendly resident cat and farmyard life in general. The breakfasts were very good and the hostess was very kind and hospitable

“Fusion of nature, history, and charm”
Six of us stayed in Banyon cottage, which is a lovely location on the estate, with lots of animals and things to do for the kids. Amazing welcome, and hospitality from Uta and Verena, Balenbouche is truly a fusion of nature, history, and charm and only a short distance from Vieux Fort and Hewanorra International Airport.
