We stumbled upon this a bit by accident as it was a useful halfway point between San Pedro and Arica but it ended up being the highlight of our entire trip. Jana, Victor and Gloria were lovely and welcoming - preparing a delicious home cooked meal after we arrived late because of traffic. The rooms were more than comfortable, amazing spot for stargazing and we were even greeted by lamas in the morning over breakfast. This is such a gem in the desert!

The welcoming and incredibly friendly and helpful owners, Jana and Victor and the wonderful food prepared by Gloria. This is a jewel in the desert. Everything is made with love and respect for the surroundings. We could only stay one night but we wished it could have been much longer.

We had a wonderful stay here - Coca and Marco are great, welcoming hosts and we felt at home straight away. The room was very unique, quiet and comfortable. We also really enjoyed the home cooked food for dinner and breakfast in the very atmospheric outside dining area. There is a lot to see in the area, so worth spending some time here - La Tirana, Pica and Matilla are a short drive away, with Humberstone and the Cerro Pintados geoglyphs not far as well.

An absolute hidden gem in the desert. As it is an eco retreat, it is definitely a lodge experience 🥰 The tranquility, the incredible, personal and genuine service (ánd cooking) of Coca, Gloria and Marco and the absolute magic of the place makes it an unforgettable stay ! We stayed 2 nights … that was a mistake … make it at least 3 or 4 !!

It's been the utmost fabulous experience. The hosts are incredibly welcoming. What makes this place truly exceptional is the many details you won't find anywhere else - amongst them a wooden platform to view the sunset, deck chairs as well as a skylight for stargazing or the dining area protected by a tree. Also worth mentioning, this is a true eco lodge - all electricity from solar and battery and even the cooking is done in various solar ovens. Both dinner and breakfast were top quality and taste. There is just so much care and attention from the hosts - it's been a real pleasure staying here.

“Charming way to experience the desert”

The place that was built with love! Everything is authentic although at the same time comfortable and having everything a quality boutique hotel would have. Owners are super charming and presents their guests with living in the desert, off the grid within the nature. Take at least two nights as there is plenty to see around. Food is great. I stopped there over on my way from Iquique to Calama, tho it could have been better to skip dome days Iquique for this place and experience.

Very nice, relaxing and neat place to stay. You can here the street a little bit at night, but it is not disturbing the peace. The host and staff a very pleasent. Breakfast and dinner are very tasty. Best thing is how this lovely place is made out of receycled materials and small and clever details in the room. As it is running on solar power and wind for charing up your smartphone, lights, warm water and cooking - this is absolutly brilliant! The El Huarango is an idol how lodges and hotels should be operated sustainable to keep our enviroment (as it was). If you stay there, you will support this behavior.
