Modern, clean and comfortable apartment. Excellent, friendly, very helpful staff. Excellent shower, with continuous, good pressure hot water. Convenient to bus and train links, which made getting around Kyoto very easy. As an added bonus, free coffee provided, which is great!

The staff were lovely, gave us great suggestions for dinner and always greeted us with an amazing attitude. The room was a great size for the 3 of us and came with a washing machine. The beds were comfortable and good size. The property was in a very convenient location with parking nearby and walkable to most areas.

Wonderful little hotel in a great and quiet location. We walked from Kyoto station to get there and that was possibly not the best idea with 2 large suitcases, would not recommend doing that! Great access to Nishiki market too. Hotel room was small (we were a family of 4 with 2 teens so a bit tight but weren't in the room much) but beautifully done (wooden carvings, all sorts of beautifuldetails), we had 2 beds and 2 more that we made on the tatami section. The room had tea and coffee facilities, a small fridge and a microwave. The bathroom was beautiful (tub and sink were gorgeous). The staff were very friendly and always so helpful (they booked us restaurants on a couple of occasions), we could not fault them. Really enjoyed it!

“Perfect place to stay”

This hotel is lovely. In a great location, really close to a subway and bus stops, and to a 7-11, walking distance from fancy shops and an amazing food market, but hidden in a quiet street.The rooms are lovely, with a blend of western and traditional. It's really useful to have a washing machine! The room is really spacious and well thought out and has it's own living room area with lots of cupboard space and a tea set as well as a coffee drip. The staff are amazing! They went above and beyond when our luggage was forwarded to the wrong hotel. They also grind coffee beans for the guests every morning. They patiently put up with my rubbish Japanese skills too.

Our stay was amazing from start to finish. The staff was extremely competent, professional, and welcoming, and they were able to assist us both in Japanese and in very good English. They took the time to show us everything in the apartment, which made the whole experience very reassuring and pleasant. The apartment itself was perfect: clean, modern, and very comfortable, with a lovely traditional touch thanks to the tatami room. Everything matched the listing exactly, so there were no bad surprises at all.

The best hotel room we've had in Japan, maybe in the world. The bed was comfortable, extremely clean, the room felt enormous, the AC pleasant, quiet and cold. It was extremely quiet and peaceful, the little tatami room was great for relaxing and the staff was beyond helpful and polite with everything. I would highly recommend the hotel for anyone staying in Kyoto. The location was also very good, the neighbourhood very charming and the hotel easy to reach with subway from Kyoto station. (We arrived to Kyoto by train). Felt like a luxury stay for the price of a normal hotel room.

Spacious, hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Helped to plan a surprise as well and made bookings to restaurants. We also had a washing machine and they provided many amenities like detergent coffee bath salts tea.

Tanakawa Kyoto Karasuma hotel offered a wonderful stay with its clean, comfortable rooms and warm, welcoming staff. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the service is consistently excellent. A great choice for exploring Kyoto lifestyle. The Sake testing and pairing free experience was quite delightful.

We had an amazing time at this hotel (the best of our entire trip) The staff were exceptionally welcoming and kind, nothing was too much trouble, the room was superb, quiet, clean and suited us perfectly. The little touches (like bath salts) and even a sake tasting were incredible. Seriously I can't rate them high enough. Exceptional

“Great hospitality in a fantastic location”

Super convenient location right in the heart of Kyoto, and within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, Nishinippori Market etc & train stations. Bike hire place on the same street which came in really handy. Staff were exceptionally friendly, rooms tidy and air conditioned, pretty spacious for Japan standards.

The location was perfect, room was lovely and very well thought out. Staff were very friendly and only too happy to help and give suggestions for places to eat etc.

“Exceptional stay in Kyoto! An experience and stay to remember!”

We stumbled upon this accommodation on Booking.com while planning our honeymoon, and what a gem it turned out to be! We stayed for five nights, and everything about our experience was exceptional. The room was absolutely beautiful – it had an authentic Japanese feel that made our stay feel truly special and immersive. Every detail was thoughtfully designed, from the tatami mats to the delicate decor. It felt peaceful, warm, and incredibly comfortable. And as we attended for our honeymoon, out room was very beautifully decorated to celebrate our occasion which was extremely thoughtful! The staff were SO SO incredibly kind, helpful, and friendly throughout our entire stay. Their hospitality truly made our experience unforgettable – we felt genuinely welcomed, cared for, and at home. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them. When the staff seen we had arrived back to the hotel, they would deliver Japanese tea and snacks to our room, as well as cute little messages - it was something different every day! It's clear that the people here are the heart of this accommodation – they’re the reason it works so well and why it stands out. The location was great as well, offering easy access to Kyoto’s temples, gardens, and charming streets. After long days of exploring, it was a joy to come back to such a serene and lovely space. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend part of our honeymoon. Highly recommended – we’d absolutely stay here again.
