The Ryokan is very close to the Ohara bus stop, its just a 5 minutes walk. We walked with 2 big suitcases, did not have any problem. We were a little late for 7pm dinner but they waited for us. On our arrival, they first asked me to choose a yakuta for myself and then let us check in and freshen up and come for dinner. The dinner was a hotpot Shabu Shabu sort of, everything served I assume was home made. They taught us how to eat from a hotpot, what sauces to mix etc. They also offered to take our pictures. After the dinner, I relaxed in the onsen. It is not private Onsen, but there was nobody there while I was, so for me it was private. Our room was huge for japanese standards. we enjoyed sleeping there. Next morning we were served traditional breakfast after which we checked out but kept our bags there while we explored Ohara. Ryoso Chatani is not just a night stay or hotel, the entire stay was an immersive experience into japanese way of life and we totally loved the hospitatlity. This was one of our main highlights and my husband has not stopped talking about it :) I highly recommend this place.

“Charming rural ryokan”
The hosts of the ryokan were accommodating and welcoming beyond words. They made us feel right at home despite the language barrier. The dinner and breakfast were fully vegan after we communicated our dietary preferences and genuinely some of the best food we’ve had. The amenities in the women’s room were complete with shampoo, conditioner, makeup remover, face wash, a face steamer (wow!), hair dryer, straighteners, and curling iron. The attention to detail was immaculate. The onsen was cosy and relaxing. They have yukatas for all sizes. The ryokan is located in beautiful Ohara within walking distance of many shrines and temples. Can’t recommend enough.

“Best experience ever 😍😍😍😍”
This is the best accomodation we have ever been. This place is a little hidden pearl. An amazing ryokan run by an elder couple. The owners were super kind and helpful. The place is very clean and beautiful, so relaxing. There is a nice little onsen for women and one for men. Also massage chair, steam face beauty machine and all kind of extras. The food was amazing. We loved our room, it was big, spacious, clean and we loved to sleep on futon. We got yukata to wear, tea and a bike that can be used free. We unfortunatly didn’t have enough time to explore the area, but we will definitely come back. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Beautiful location,Ohara was a nice surprise and such a calm lovely place outside of hectic city. Nice breather from running around sightseeing. We loved this Ryokan stay, full of flowers and cute decor, soothing music , spotless amenities and the onsen was lovely too. Something almost magical about the environment. The hosts are a lovely couple who are kind and thoughtful and we enjoyed their warm hospitality. The hotpot dinners were very delicious and we enjoyed the traditional breakfast as well. We loved riding their bikes around the area. Explored some beautiful shrines and countryside of Ohara. Would love to return someday. Highly recommend.

“Traditional Comfort and Warm Hospitality”
Really cozy hotel with a traditional-style room. Everything was spotless and nicely prepared, and we were given robes on arrival, which was a lovely touch. The food was excellent, and the onsen was fantastic – with plenty of toiletries and extra products available for women. The host was also very kind and welcoming. We travelled by bus from Tokyo and arrived quite late, but that didn’t spoil the experience at all. I’d definitely recommend staying here at least once.

“An unforgettable traditional Japanese onsen ryokan experience for my family. We are very appreciative of the owners who”
The owners, an old couple were both extremely friendly and accommodating. They were always cheerful and helpful in making sure that we were well looked after. They see that our dietary needs are met even when we informed them very late. Our meals were served personally by the owners and they were the most sumptuous local meals (both breakfast and dinner) that we tasted in Japan. The rooms were huge and comfortable with hot green tea serving. The onsen was a beautiful and unforgettable experience and it can accommodate about 3-4 people at one time. The decoration of the whole hotel is magnificent with Christmas lights and decors brought in the Christmas charm. Bicycles are also available for rent, my family enjoyed cycling the bikes around the rural town. Facilities were always clean and hygienic for usage. Surrounding temples are also worth a visit. We really feel rejuvenated visiting those sacred sites and the surrounding nature.

“we would love to come back again”
This was an absolutely wonderful traditional Japanese inn that fulfilled all of my husband’s and my dreams of experiencing Japanese culture. The owners, a lovely couple, were incredibly kind, and every detail of the meals was prepared with care. The inn was very comfortable and spotlessly clean! The hot spring was so relaxing, and the food was truly outstanding. Ohara is such a charming place, with the sound of flowing streams, rice fields, birdsong, flowers, and beautiful temples. We also enjoyed cycling around, which was so much fun! Overall, we had an unforgettable and heartwarming stay. Thank you so much to the owners—we would love to come back again if we have the chance!

I felt super welcome from the moment that I arrived. This place is owned by an elderly couple. Although they don’t speak English, we were able to communicate because they are very kind and open hearted. I had breakfast and dinner. They are well-made and super delicious. I will come back again!
