“Great stay next to the temples in Ohara.”

Rieke was a lovely host. Property is located just to the front of the temples (which are well worth the visit). There are some eateries during the day next to temple (2mins walk) but you will need to drive back towards Kyoto for dinner. You can park in the carport after checkout and continue to see the temples.

This accommodation is located in the most beautiful and peaceful area. It is within walking distance to Sanzen-in Temple, where you can experience a tea ceremony. The hosts were absolutely lovely, providing helpful knowledge about the local area and even assisting us with extending our car hire which was much appreciated. We were a family of four travelling with a lot of luggage and the house was very comfortable and spacious for our stay. There is also a FamilyMart about 1 km from the house, with a beautiful walk down the hill to get there. The video Reiko sent us beforehand was extremely helpful, as maps did not take us to the correct address. Kyoto city is also only about a 20-minute drive away, making this a perfect peaceful base while still being close to the city. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this accommodation. Everything. Our host was friendly and extremely helpful sending us a video and picture so we could find it. Then, when we went up the wrong road she came back with us to the car and redirected us. Reiko has created a comfortable, quiet and serene place to stay. It is so beautiful that you won't want to leave. A very short walk to some fantastic local shrines with little shops aplenty for presents or food. A place that will stay in our hearts for a long time

Thanks to Rieko for her kindness and for making our stay truly unforgettable. This place is a hidden gem in the countryside near Kyoto. If you’re looking to escape the crowds of the city and spend a few relaxing days surrounded by nature, this is the perfect spot. Just about 1.5 hours from Kyoto and close to beautiful temples, you can enjoy peaceful walks through rice fields and really take in the charm of rural Japan. We arrived a bit early, but Rieko was so helpful and immediately assisted us with our luggage. The house itself was spotless, comfortable, and very quiet—exactly what we needed. Within walking distance, you’ll also find authentic Japanese restaurants and a lovely farmers’ market with great local products. It was absolutely worth the price, and we only wish we had stayed longer!

This is a cozy little house located very close to Sanzen-in Temple. It has a small garden where you can relax, enjoy tea, and have conversations. The surrounding plants provide privacy, so there’s no need to worry about being spied on. The host is warm, always ready to help with any issues right away — we’re very grateful to her! This truly is a perfect place for a relaxing getaway. Even if you don’t visit the temple, simply sitting in the garden or taking a stroll along the nearby countryside is delightful. Highly recommended — I hope to vacation here again, and I suggest staying for at least two nights!

It was a memorable moment to enjoy the sunset from the sofa inside the house with a glass of wine, the house has everything we needed, it was cosy and beautiful! Rieko was very friendly and responsive, she received us upon our arrival and came to say goodbye before we leave!

The property is a small but cozy standalone house with a number of traditional features, a large terrace and plenty of parking. It is an ideal location for the nearby temples as well as the national park and the popular temples at the top of Mount Hiei. The host is wonderful and responsive and speaks very good English. They met us on arrival and came to wish us safe trip on departure. Kyoto is relatively easily reachable, but I would recommend a car not only to get out to Kyoto, but also to get around -- there is tons to see in the area. However, you can equally stay in the village for a couple of days w/o the need of getting out anywhere given the local serenity of temples! The village has all the amenities and during the day time even lots of restaurants next to the temples.

I’m so lucky to have been able to live in such a nice and cozy house in Kyoto, it felt like a second home. Surrounded by beautiful nature and far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, I was fully relaxed here.

Ohara Sensui is a great little cottage to stay in while exploring the Ohara area . It is clean & has everything you need for a comfortable stay . We bought food in Kyoto , since there is no supermarket in Ohara . Rieko is a lovely host and speaks English . It is very tranquil place to stay in Ohara .

Breathing taking scenery surrounded by mountains and greenery, quiet environment recommended for any travelers that wants to avoid the tourist crowds. The host is always prompt in her reply. Despite no cooked breakfast provided due to licensing issue, the host prepared milk, juices and cereal and snacks and a loaf of bread for us.

“Absolutely wonderful retreat for 2!”

We wanted a quiet location as a retreat and this certainly ticked the box. So very peaceful. Within a short walking distance there were several temples with beautiful gardens and a lovely waterfall too. We also had lovely meals (daytime) only a stone’s throw away in the gift shop that has a restaurant overlooking the mountains. The hosts were very friendly and helpful too with suggestions. We would love to return at some point.
