It was very authentically Japanese. Exactly what we were looking for when staying in Kyoto. Mamoru was very welcoming and responded quickly to messages. He was also eager to help us have the best stay possible.

We really enjoyed our stay in this traditional house in Kyoto, and the communication with the host was excellent throughout our visit. The accommodation is located close to two bus stops, which makes getting around Kyoto very easy and convenient. For a family, it was the perfect place: spacious, very well organized, and beautifully designed with a great balance between traditional Japanese elements and modern comfort. The bathroom was excellent, and the skincare products provided were of very good quality , a detail that truly makes a difference. We highly recommend this place and would definitely come back!

Wonderful traditional place. A bit out of the way but still easily reachable by public transport, this very beautiful house equipped with all amenities one could want and the marvellous host Mamoru-san makes this a top choice. One of the best places we have stayed in some time.

“The best stay we ever had in Japan. Fantastic place!”

This is truly a gem, best accommodation we ever had in Japan! Beautiful residential neighborhood, very serene with the sound of cicadas. 5-10mins walk to a supermarket and many local restaurants. One large tatami room and a very large western bedroom beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Separate AC in every room which was very appreciated during one of the hottest summers in Japan. Well stocked kitchen and dining room. Two very clean bathrooms and a washing machine that does both washing and drying and has a built-in detergent tank. The host was very friendly and even left us a tablet with marked restaurants in the area. It is 20min walk from Kinkaku-ji temple but you won't see crowds of tourists there, we took Uber to other locations which was very reasonably priced. Wi-Fi worked very well, no complaints from the kids. Two TVs have Netflix and Prime plus other streaming channels we didn't use.

Stunning secluded detached property built in the traditional Japanese style but with many modern amenities. Beautiful gardens including tsubo-niwa style courtyard garden. Wonderful warm welcome from the host Mamoru-san. Very peaceful setting down a private road, within walking distance of Daitoku-ji and only a short taxi ride from Ryoan-ji and Kinkaku-ji. Well-equipped kitchen, very high quality washer/dryer, very comfortable beds (a mix of western style beds in a room with wooden flooring and futons in a tatami room). One of the most pleasant places we have ever stayed in.

The property is amazing. What a beautiful traditional style house you stay in. They beds we so comfortable and the owner went over and above with everything. So quiet. The bus is only a 4 minute walk. Can’t express enough how great this place is to stay. Restaurant suggestions were the best. Made my food allergies seem like I didn’t have them. Thank you so much.

Beautiful home with traditional furnishings made comfortable, the small garden was peaceful to look upon and we even saw a Japanese raccoon dog which we had to search because it was an animal we had never seen before. The host lives upstairs and is lovely and extremely helpful whilst given privacy. Location is great with a short walk to a local temple, shops and the Golden Temple.

Everything was good, just the pillow is not comfortable, but the owner Mamoru San and the lady assistant are very nice and helpful. Excellent hospitality and generous, we are so enjoyed.

“Lovely stay in a traditional town house”

Lovely traditional style japanese house, beautiful setting and only a 5 minute walk from the daisen-in and daitoku-ji temples. Lots of bus stops near by so you can get places. Buses are also quite cheap only 230 yen flat fee for a one way trip (approx £1.50 gbp at time of writing). So even though this place is about 30 mins bus journey from kyoto station it doesn't matter because it won't necessarily cost more.

This accommodation exceeded every expectation! The host was incredibly welcoming and attentive, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere from the moment we arrived. The property itself is a hidden gem, even more stunning than the photos can capture. The garden is beautifully maintained, offering a serene oasis that’s perfect for relaxation. The traditional Japanese rooms were amazing, thoughtfully designed, and provided an authentic experience that felt both luxurious and comfortable. I cannot recommend this place enough—it truly is an unforgettable stay!

“Exceptional Japanese style living experience.”

Exceptional Japanese style living quarters, very spacious with beautiful view of the garden and atrium. Western style master bedroom with TV and Netflix. Second tatami/ futon style bedroom. Air conditioning in every room makes it possible to turn it off in bedroom itself. Supportive owner who provides very good recommendations. Pictures show exactly what to expect.

Very tastefully decorated and spacious - a great place to relax away from the center and still be able to get around with good transport links. The landlord is very helpful and friendly and we had a very relaxing time there and will be very happy to go there again when we are back in Kyoto.

“An incredible place-better than we could have imagined!”

We were so lucky to have found Nachiya- such a beautiful place in a quiet, beautiful area of Kyoto. Our host was so helpful and accommodating. He recommended local restaurants local and areas to visit. We were lucky enough to visit one and had the most incredible meal. We loved the traditional Japanese style of the accommodation; the peace and quiet; the location; the facilities and the space it had to offer.

Wonderful four nights at Nachiya. Mamoru-san is a kind and helpful host who really cares for his guests. He communicated quickly, answered our questions, provided info and recommendations and forwarded our luggage for us upon our departure. It was great to have so much space after small hotel rooms in other locations. Lovely location - walking distance to Kinkaku-ji and just around the corner from Kazariya (which you simply must visit for grilled mochi with white miso sauce) and really good access to buses and metro. Full kitchen, comfy beds, lots of amenities, beautiful furnishings. Highly recommended.

The host made us feel very welcomed upon arrival. He recommended some local restaurants and places to visit, which we appreciated. The property was beautiful, very traditional Japanese-style home with modern amenities. Local streets were quiet at night so we slept well. It was also located in a convenient location with access to many buses. The host also helped us to book a taxi as we had quite a bit of luggage, which was very kind of him. Would definitely book again!

I love everything about this place. It was very beautiful and peaceful. The owner of the accommodation is very cute and friendly (Speak English very well) . Had a wonderful welcome.
