Owners were lovely and attentive. Beds were so comfortable!!! Room and bathrooms were clean. Dogs were so cute!!!!

Highly recommended place, I don't think I've ever felt so comfortable in a hotel anywhere else. The staff is extremely welcoming and efficient. There was also the opportunity to attend a show with a real Miko and it was very funny.

our kind hosts supplied us with delicious sushi on arrival with delicious cakes or strawberries in the little fridge on our return in the afternoons. Every day there were fresh flowers and they kindly did our laundry. They were so helpful in finding our way around by drawing maps and suggesting places to go. They also had three lovely Labrador dogs! Our hosts always saw us out in the mornings and wished us a happy day and welcomed us back. It was so nice to be able to make coffee or tea with cups provided. we very much enjoyed the fresh fruit. They even offered us an upgraded room but we were happy where we were. many apologies for taking your charging lead inadvertently in the reception area.

Loved the owners and how nice they were. Super attentive and we loved the daily fresh fruit! Even tho we didn’t book the dinner option, which included a Maiko I think, they knocked on every door at night for photos! Location wise it’s located in the quiet district of Gion and close to Kawaramachi. I think the 20 min walks were good, not too long.

Fantastic experience, very homely and clearly family-run. They go the extra mile with things like fruit in the afternoon, and breakfast for the following morning, as well as the welcome tea and free laundry service/snacks. And the lovely dogs just top off the experience! Great location too.

Amazing hotel with such warm and friendly hosts. Felt like staying with family, the hosts prepared tea and fruits and lots of snacks available if you were hungry. We were fortunate to attend a free Maiko show in the hotel which was a lovely touch. Minutes walk from all the streets of Gion, Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka. The dogs were super cute! Wish we could stay longer

I made the HUGE mistake of staying here for my first nights in Japan: I will never top this. Traditional ryokan, attentive hosts. Most of the guests are foreigners and the hosts take great care to introduce Japanese culture.

Great place with lovely staff.

Extremely accommodating staff who were approachable and kind. They provided me with japanese snacks and fresh fruit every day. They offered to wash my clothes for me at no cost and they have 2 golden labradors who greet you when you come in. They invited me to a maiko show (which was very fun and easy to follow) for free and gave a free snack and drink of choice. The rooms were nice and quiet, and the location was superb; being in Gion and between Yasaka shrine and Kiyomizu-dera.

I like how welcoming they are, with welcoming tea when checking in, snacks after a long day out and also giving a hand with laundry. They also wear a smile when greeting and seeing you off for the day

I love everything about the ryokan sano! A real japanese experience, Very kind personal! We had a maiko show for free that was really nice. I highly recommend this place. Okini :)

The staff were so friendly it was line staying with family. Every day they would always leave fresh fruit and something extra in the fridge for me in the evenings which was a welcome surprise after exploring during the day. The room was a good size and comfortable with plenty of tea, coffee and a few snacks outside the room free for guests to help themselves to. Location was very central to a few tourist sites and I was lucky enough to have the honour of meeting a Maiko along with other guests. The Maiko explained why she had taken that path, taught us about the steps and training she had gone through up to that point, showed us some traditional games which we took part in and performed a traditional dance which she then on went to explain the symbolism of the movements and use of the paper fan. There were a few dogs roaming around the main reception area but oh so friendly and inquisitive, you could tell they were comfortable around strangers and would greet people as they came through to the reception.

The ryokan-style room was truly beautiful, very clean, very quiet and well equipped. The bonsai outside the window and pretty view were also an extra. The futon was very comfortable. The host family did everything they could to make my four night stay special. And they truly delivered. I loved the fresh fruit and lovely cakes every afternoon. Also the minibreakfast provided was a bonus. I really appreciate it that they did my laundry free of charge. The unexpected evening with a maiko and free sake was real fun and very interesting too. I can only recommend!!! ありがとうございました!!!
