“Fantastic house and host”

Fantastic experience during our stay with Yoko in her guest house. She is a lovely and gracious host, helping us navigate the transport and food options in the area! The bedroom was spacious with comfortable beds, accompanied by a modern onsen style bathroom. This was a great addition to rest after long days of walking. Highly recommend to those looking to stay in a slightly calmer part of Kyoto, but still with easy access to anything you may need. Loved our time with Yoko!

“Fantastic”

We really liked the Japanese style room, every detail was taken care of, very clean and cozy. The hostess, Yoko, was super helpful and kind to us. She helped us with everything we needed. Delicious breakfasts. Close to bus stops to get around the city. We would definitely stay again.

We stayed in a cozy lovely room , it really felt like being at home. Yoko has been very helpful and welcoming, and has a lot of good advices for visiting Kyoto and cities around. The localization in Kyoto was convenient, with frequent buses to reach the main station and sightseeing sites. Thank you!

“Great stay in a traditional home with an excellent host”

Super nice host, Yoko is extremely helpful and nice. The room is comfortable and clean, the area is quiet and it's easy to get around the city by public transport from Yoko's guesthouse. The house has a very nice traditional Japanese vibe, great for guests who want to experience the traditional way of living.

This was an absolutely lovely stay near Nijo Castle. The host, Yoko, was wonderful and made sure our stay was exceptional. The rooms were spacious and clean. Would rebook with Yoko if we ever venture back to Kyoto.

Wonderful! From the beginning to the last moment. Yoko is extremely kind, the Japanese traditional house is wonderful and the breakfast is excellent. The place is silent and very near to the bus station. What can I say more? Thank you so much Yoko! Hoping to go back to your house!

Yoko is a wonderful host. She is a caring and loving person. The place is so comfortable. It is 20 minutes by bus from kyoto station. However, it is well connected to every turistic place. If you have the JR pass and want to travel by train from there , there is a train station a 15-minute walk from there, so there is no need to take the bus. Yoko suggested us awesome places to go, and we couldn't be more grateful as those places were absolutely amazing. She also looks after you they entire time. She will remain in our hearts 💕

“Excellent! A very good traditional stay in the guest house.”

We loved Yoko the host, she was so lovely and traditional! She was so helpful with everything! She knew Kyoto so well, and made us feel so at home! We loved the traditional matcha ceremony she did for us on the morning we left. We can’t wait to go back.

My wife and I loved everything about our stay at Kyo-Obataya! Yoko is such an amazing, attentive, and warm-hearted host - this definitely made our stay in Kyoto unforgettable! She gave us great tips for places where we could avoid the crowds (and that we absolutely loved) and helped us with all our needs..Thank you so much again Yoko, we loved chatting with you, and loved the matcha surprise before we left - hopefully we can be back soon!

A very affordable option that makes the stay more authentic since the host connects very well with the guests. We enjoyed very good chats and she prepared lovely breakfast for us.

The host was a delightful, friendly and extraordinarily meticulous and helpful. Comfortable room and beds, very clean “wet” bathroom. Well situated regarding transport and sights.

Yoko was very friendly and keen to ensure guests have an authentic experience. There was good communication from her before and during our stay, and she ensured we could navigate the transport system before venturing out! Local area has lots of places to eat nearby.. one with a complete train set in!

Everything was incredible from start to the end, Yoko the host of the guesthouse is probably the best person we have met in Japan , she have a very good english and she is always here to talk with you and give you some tips about Kyoto , mention for his neighbor across the street who checked us in and made us discover his passion at his home and brought us to the train station, so kind! Thank you for everything, we will come back with pleasure I recommend you to stay here for your trip in Kyoto.

Yoko, the hostess, is probably the most kind person we have met during our trip through Japan. We stayed in the western style room. The room, the service, everything is perfect. We will definetly come back. ありがとうございました。

“Great experience in a traditional Japanese house”

We never write reviews about the places we stay in, but we thought that Yoko deserved one as she has been a great host. From the first moment we went through the door she welcomed us with all her warmth and love. She recommended places to go to, explained curiosities about Japan and the area where the guest house is placed, and help us with everything we needed. The room was extremely clean, and well equipped. We chose to stay in the traditional Japanese room, sleeping on the futons, which were very comfortable. With all this, we would therefore recommend to stay here if you have the chance to, since for us, it has been a lovely experience and Yoko will make sure your stay is great as well.

“Authentic experience”

Everything, specially the staff. Everyone was so nice and gracious to us. It was a really authentic experience of the daily routine in a japanese house. It is possible to have a typical japanese bath and to sleep in the traditional way on the floor. We are very thankfull to have chosen this unique place to stay.
