Enjoyed staying in a more traditional Japanese house. Good location and in a quiet area

What a lovely home! We met the hosts who explained everything clearly and received some nice welcome goodies. The place is very spacious and located in a quiet area within walking distance of many restaurants and sights. It really felt like we were staying in a traditional home, would love to stay here again!

Lovely quiet location close to the Gion district, very spacious and well appointed. The hosts were very kind and accommodating with our needs, in particular with our daughter who had a medical condition.

“Great accomodation in Kyoto”

We really enjoyed staying in this traditional house, equipped by all the modern facilities. The house is in a quite residential area, but in a walking distance from Kiomizu Dera temple and Gion quarter. It was very nice to get out and just walk on the evenings without a need of transportation. There is a supermarket and a bus stop nearby, and also the train station is in a walking distance. The location is very convenient. The house is spotless, charming, very comfortable, and very well equipped. There was enough space for a family of four. The communication with our host was great. She met us personnaly (although we arrived after the checkin hour), and explained everything about the house. Also the snacks left for us on the table were a nice and pleasant surprise. It was a great experience staying there and we are glad that we chose it!

“Comfortable, cosy, wonderful stay in a well cared for Machiya”

Cosy, comfortable property that has been well looked after. Perfect if you’re looking for a slice-of-life style stay in a Japanese Machiya. The hosts gave me a tour and showed me how everything worked, from the coffee machine through to the aircon. The tatami room was perfect to sit and edit my photos of Kyoto. The large bathtub had a cute window onto a mini zen garden, which was magical. The sofa in the living room was big and so, so comfy. Everything about the property was comfortable, with so many amenities; they really have thought of everything you might need. The kitchen has a coffee machine and teas available. The aircon is strong, perfect for the humid weather recently and the washing machine and dryer are perfect to refresh outfits. Within walking distance of temples, Gion, Ninenzaka and ceramic shops. Within 5 minutes is a bus stop into the center (coincidentally found some of my favourite pieces in the ceramic shop on the way to the bus stop from the property). Under 10 mins walk away is a taxi rank.

“Amazing.”

Staying in such an authentic place was great. The location was great. Facilities were great and every detail was thought through. When we did out check in, everything was explained in detail, and the booklet of the house was useful. We asked the futon beds to be ready just to try for one night, we ended up sleeping on it through all our stay. There were some snacks with a note from the owner, which made us really happy.

Very close to shops and restaurants, modern facilities, Very clean. Nice kitchen. Great communication from hosts. Comfy sofas.

Excellent machiya accommodation, in very convenient location. Great facilities and thoughtful little touches. More than enough space for 2 people.

“Traditional house in great location with modern conveniences”

This is a spotlessly clean, charming traditional house with all modern conveniences to ensure a comfortable stay. One bedroom has 2 western-style beds and the 2nd bedroom can be set up with a futon at a small additional charge. It makes a great base for exploring Kyoto. It is in a perfect location with some of Kyoto's most charming and photographed sights and streets a short walk away. As it is set a few blocks back from a key highway, it is very quiet but you have great access to the excellent bus network. Among the many thoughtful touches, it has a Nespresso machine and additional pods can be sourced from a couple of Department stores, including the 11 storey one at Kyoto station (they are not available at nearby supermarkets). Highly recommended.

Beautiful property in a quite side street right in the heart of the historical part of Kyoto, easily accessed by public transport

“A lovely little apartment that was a pleasure to stay in.”

We really enjoyed staying in this apartment on a residential street just one block back from one of the main streets in the area. The apartment itself was spotless and given its size each space was utilised very well. An instruction booklet was provided for all appliances which was very useful and it was great to have a washing machine available. It was certainly a great place to come back to after a long day of exploring the area and it was very handy to the local buses on the main street and also a taxi stand for getting to Kyoto Station. We found that recommended dinner restaurants were a little further away requiring 20 plus minutes of walking, though there were a few close by cafes open during the day.

Warmly welcomed by host, who was efficient and accommodating (read what we ‘did not like’ about property). She provided house rules and neatly presented and clear instructions (in English) to operating the main home appliances in the house, which were most appreciated. The location of the machiya is 👍🏻 - quiet as it’s tucked away from the main road yet less than 5 mins walk to it. Bus stops and casual eateries dot the main road. The house has a well-equipped kitchen and laundry necessities. Tea and coffee provided as was a small basket of snacks.
