“Great hosts, clean and organized rooms and great location”

One of the best stays we have ever had. Mr Li and his wife were fabulous hosts. They really made the stay special. The room itself was clean and well equipped. If we are ever back in Kyoto we would definitely choose to stay here again!

5 stars are not enough to express how thankful I am for this week at Engawa Guesthouse. The hosts were so careful and became for me like friends. All comforts are provided and I loved the calm of the road, so close to the best part of the city!

“Incredible guesthouse in kyoto”

Everything was perfect. Amenities, room, location but the owners and their hospitality were on another level. It felt like visiting family members in Kyoto. Their service and friendliness were just incredible and I find it hard to find words for it.

The hosts are so hospitable and generous!! Would 100% recommend the night tour that Li does as well, he is very passionate and informative of the area and culture/history

“Wonderful family run guesthouse in Kyoto”

Engawa guesthouse is a great place to stay as a solo traveller in Kyoto. The space is small, but very cosy and well equipped with lots of really thoughtful touches which make the space feel really homely. Linda and Li are such kind and generous hosts who go above and beyond to make their guests feel welcome and ensure you have a great stay in the city. Thank you Li for the wonderful tour around Kyoto which we won’t forget!

“The most amazing hosts! So friendly and warm”

This was such an amazing stay! Li and his wife (the hosts) were so lovely, welcoming and accommodating. They offered so many free things from drinks in the kitchen to bathroom products like soaps, shampoos and a toothbrush and many more. They provided a free laundry service also, and best of all Li offered free tours where he can take you to all the best spots around kyoto. This was the highlight of my time in Kyoto but also one of the highlights of my time in Japan. Li was so kind and interesting, and I really enjoyed staying I felt so welcome and at home. The facilities are great too and so is the location. I can’t thank Li and Linda enough! I really recommend staying you won’t get such warm and accommodating people in other hostels or guesthouses! Would love to return!

Location of the guesthouse is perfect. We also really appreciated Mr Li’s help with everything, he was very kind and on our fist night he drove us around the city to show us all nice places. He also gave my some medicine for my runny nose, which was super kind.

There is a reason why this guesthouse has 10/10 rating. The hosts are exceptional people. The make you feel welcomed and taken care of. From excellent selection of cosmetic products to recommendations of activities and restaurants- everything is thought through to the details to ensure you enjoy your stay. The owner even took us on a complimentary night car excursions and showed all hidden gems in Kyoto. If I ever back to Kyoto that is the only accommodation I will stay in!!!

“Exceptional stay next to the temples”

The stay in Engawa guesthouse was exceptional! The hosts were on another level of hospitality, always reading to help and recommend many attractions, restaurants and cafes. The guesthouse is well equipped, confortable and clean. It is also very close to a number of touristic temples, so greatly located. I think it is especially great for solo travellers!

“Super comfartable tatami room in between some of the best atractions in kyoto”

The friendly homely attitude and vibe they have there in combination with the deep knowledge and advise they gave me. Also the overload of amenities and freebees i got that i would not get in things four times the price.. like craft pour over coffee (unlimited and free) and they even did my laundry for me for free and folded it to. when i left they also gave me a beautiful collection of printed images for me to take home as a gift.

“Great value for price”

Great location, only 5 to 10 minutes walk from the temple. Close to bus stop. Geisha neighborhood in walking distance. Owners are very friendly and helpful. There are night tours organized, which are very interesting and worth the money.

The whole place is incredible. Our host where very kind and solved every issues faster than expected. Li even took us on a night ride in Kyoto for our last day and show us places and the story behind. It was perfect to discover the city on a new angle. I can only encourage everyone to book their room

It has everything and it was clean and comfortable. The hosts are very helpful and respectful. Their guided short tours are very entertaining and informative. The place is extremely close to one of the most famous tourist attractions in Kyoto yet on a very quiet street.

Mr Li is an exceptionally welcoming host, will go out of his way if you need anything. He provides lots of little touches to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I was unfortunately too busy to go on one of Mr Li’s excursions

The hosts turn the accommodation from good to great. If you want a different experience than another bland hotel, consider this small guesthouse tucked away near the heart of Kyoto.

“It felt like staying with family”

Mr Li and his wife are the most welcoming people :) Not only did Mr Li gift me stunning photographs and provided me with useful recommondations, but he also offers a very informative night walking tour, which I can wholeheartedly recommend! During the Tour I learned a lot about Kyotos rich culture, especially about the different Geisha groups. Mr Le and his wife were always up for a talk at the end of the day, so it felt like staying with family. Mrs Li did several loads of laundry for free and even folded my clothes (thank you so much again!), so I had more time to explore. The rooms were very comfortable and curtains give you some privacy even in the dorms, so I could always get a good nights sleep. Not only did Mr Li provide every guest with fresh towels, a toothbrush and earplugs but the bathroom also boast a great selection of Makeup removers, face wash, Shampoos and conditioners. They had everything I could ever need. Both the bathroom/shower and the dorm were clean at all times. The location of the Guesthouse is very convinient for sightseeing and also located near several Bus stops. I can't recommend staying with Mr Li and his family enough, they made my trip the wonderful experience it was and If I visit Kyoto again this is where I'll be staying! From all Hostels/guesthouses I ever stayed in this was by far my favourite! Thank you again for everything!!

The guesthouse is in a perfect location, quiet, yet very central. It’s exceptionally clean and perfectly equipped. I traveled with my girlfriend, and she was amazed by the thoughtful details, especially the wide range of products that women appreciate, like face creams, cleansers, and more. The owners are the kindest people we’ve ever met, incredibly friendly, helpful, and warm hearted. We truly wish them all the best and want to say thank you once again for a wonderful stay. Absolutely deserving of 5 stars!
