“Good but not the best”
Friendly staff. Had the option of using two private onsen baths, which were free to use most of the time. The two private baths had different types of water, which was nice. The food was good and the futons were a bit softer than other ryokans, which made it easier to sleep on them.

“Great first ryokan experience”
This was the perfect hotel for our first traditional ryokan experience. The hotel is small, only 7 rooms of the 14 are sold per night, giving you a private room to dine. Food was plentiful and delicious, although we stayed 2 nights we ate something different each time. Great location within walking distance to all must visit spots. As the ryokan is quiet the private onsens are often vacant, or no one else in the gendered onsens so is basically a private experience.

Really lovely stay. Delicious food and a really quiet and peaceful dining experience in a room by ourselves. The private hot spring baths were amazing, they were always available. Close to the centre of Kusatsu and the Yubatake.

“The cost was too high for that quality.”
Food (Dinner and breakfast) were okay. But the quality was not money valued.

“Wonderful stay in a calm and beautiful ryokan”
Location was right off the central onsen/square of Kusatsu. Very convenient, calm and quiet. The ryokan itself had 2 private and 2 gendered onsens that were almost always available for our own use and I will absolutely stay here again if I visit Kusatsu again.

“Very relaxing atmosphere”
I really loved the whole experience at Ryokan Tamura. I felt very relaxed and pampered since dinner and breakfast was served, and we loved using the onsen. We asked for vegan food, and they informed us that the broth may contain dashi, but for us that was ok. The food was delicious and we got to try some of the traditional Japanese cuisine consisting of mainly vegetables. There were men only and women only onsens, and two private onsens. The water was super warm and relaxing. The staff was also very welcoming and nice and spoke english.

“Strongly recommend to couple visiting Kusatsu.”
A small but very friendly Ryoken. Happy with the personal service. Private onsen although is small but water is hot. One of the better onsen experience under -6 degree.

The hotel is very caring, but didn't have chance to live since the bus time is very limited in karuizawa. Please check the bus information very carefully. Sometimes transportation information is too detailed in JP which will result in misleading.

“Great getaway in an onsen retreat location.”
My stay at Ryokan Tamura in Kusatsu was truly exceptional. The private onsen bathroom added a luxurious touch to the traditional ryokan experience. The room was meticulously designed, blending modern comforts with Japanese aesthetics. The private onsen was a serene oasis, allowing for a relaxing soak in the mineral-rich waters with complete privacy. The staff's attention to detail and hospitality were remarkable, enhancing the overall stay. The kaiseki dinner served was a culinary delight, showcasing the finest local ingredients. Ryokan Tamura is a perfect choice for those seeking a tranquil and culturally enriching getaway.
