- comfy twin beds with thick duvet, fuzzy extra blanket, 2 pillows with towel covers for wet hair, two sockets for charging - provided towels (body towel and face towel), slippers, and coat hangers/hooks - there is a little table, two glasses, and tissues - in super quiet residential side street so very quiet, no noise at night (the other guests were quiet too, YMMV) - 5 min walk to free local onsen Tatsuminoyu and a Lawson’s - 10-15 min walk from major Kusatsu attractions such as Yubatake and public baths - mini-fridge (big enough for carton of milk in door), TV, AC in room - great wifi - super clean shared spaces like sink, toilet, with free amenities like hot/cold spring water dispenser, hand soap, face soap, dish soap - there are several kettles (but no mugs/coffee/tea, I brought my own) and a microwave (in upstairs hallway) - easy and fast self-check in with instructions sent multiple times in a timely manner

I was sceptical about the entire check-in process before arrival since they mention there is no human staff at the property and it's all automated. But the experience turned out to be great with no issues at all. The property is lovely, a short 10 min walk from the bus station and there is a convenience store nearby. All of Kusatsu is walkable, so no touristy place is really very far here. It was the ryokan experience at a low cost and I loved it. The room was Japanese style and nice, very warm with the provided heater. A very quiet property and is located in a residential area. I saw a couple of other guests at the property, but there were no chances of interaction with anyone- it's not the typical hostel environment. The shared washroom was also always kept clean. They had towels which you can take while going to one of the onsens in town.

Everything was pleasant

Doesn´t have a shower in the property just nice toilets and washing sinks, its very clean and quiet but it was a shame we couldn´t have a shower. If you stay longer than one night, think if you really need a shower facility.

No staff... Mainly automated, as advertised. Simple and minimalist; especially the bed.

Very uncomfortable beds (futons) made the sleep quite challenging.

An incredible find. The rooms have a classic and traditional feeling. The property might lack a private bathroom or a shower, but you're literally 10 minutes away from one of the best onsens in Kusatsu (5min if you cut through Shoutoku park)... Will return for sure in the future!

“Fantastic”

Easy check-in and checkout, close to everything, and VERY good value for the money. Lots of onsen nearby for morning/night shower since the stay itself doesn't have any ways of showering. They also provide a towel set for onsen, which you can bring to the onsens so you don't have to rent. Parking is great too!

I was clean and verry comfy I loved my stay. For this price it was absolutely amazing. Regarding the futons.. you have to like it.

Minutes away on foot from Ohtaki no Yu, one of the major onsen in town. The room was spacious and clean. Linen provided were fresh and super comfortable, bonus points for the extra fluffy duvet ! The futon was a bit thin but I messaged the owner and they provided an extra thicker futon in no time. The shared toilet and communal spaces were well kept and all amenities were provided.

Price

None of the doors locked. The front door to the building did not ever lock. The door to my room did not lock. Only the manual deadbolt worked while inside the room. Also super dirty. There were used tissues under the table in my room.
