“Stay at a temple at Koya San”

Very nice stay in a temple. Incredible foods and good beds. Please bare in mind you have to tell them if you are present for breakfast. We did not do that and felt very sorry for not informing the staff.

“A magical time at a temple in Kōyasan”

The whole experience was wonderful. From the warm and gentle welcome to the incredible Buddhist food, which was beautifully presented, our whole time at Shukubo Sojiin was lovely. Morning prayers with the monks is a very calming experience. Thank you to all who made our stay such a lovely experience.

The room was nice, very quiet and peaceful, the staff were very friendly and helpful with all our requests - we needed some help getting to our next destination and really appreciated that they were able to help us with this. The food was very special, so beautifully presented, delicious, varied, exciting and very filling. Dinner looked and tasted like an edible piece of art.

We had a chance to experience both dinner and breakfast. There was a variety of different foods, and it was a pleasant experience. We also had the opportunity to participate in the morning prayer. Koyasan is a great place to visit.

“A special place”

Big room in a delightful building, part of a Buddhist temple. Dinner was incredibly innovative and delicious, using only vegetables. Similarly breakfast was quite an event. Attending a Buddhist ceremony in the morning was very special and, as the only Western tourists, we appreciated an explanation of the tenets of this branch of Buddhism.

“Amazing”

It is on the pricey side, but we truly enjoyed the experience. The meals were exceptional. The staff was really helpful and I even had a chance to practice my Japanese during our stay. I asked the day before the morning ceremony about the availability of an interpreter, and I was delighted that one agreed to join us and share deeper insights into the traditions and meaning of Zen Buddhism. Koya is a beautiful place and definitely worth spending a night there at least once in your lifetime 🙂

Amazing experience

“An utterly special and memorable stay”

Beautiful surroundings, totally delightful and warm staff and superb, exquisitely presented meals. Room was warm and onsen bath soo relaxing. Thank you all for a wonderful stay. The service in the morning created a meditative atmosphere which was complemented by a gentle stroll through the autumn leaves and moss and raked gravel garden. The temple was perfectly situated for transport and visiting the sights of Koyasan.

“Absolutely wonderful”

Absolutely stunning and generously proportioned suite with our own 2 person “onsen style” bath. Wonderful staff and terrific food.

The location was perfect, the whole experience was amazing and felt fully immersed into the Japanese and Budhist culture
