Well maintained and run by friendly locals. Room was very spacious. Dinner was fine dining showcasing fresh local ingredients including the beverages. Breakfast was delicious too.

Exceptional stay from beginning till the end. I was all alone at Nipponia during this off peak season and had the whole house to myself. Service was faultless - the team made me feel very welcome and safe. It was a perfect stay for me.

We stayed 3 nights at Nipponia Kosuge during New Year's Eve 2025. The place is beautiful and the staff extremely welcoming and delicate. It was a real chance to be able to spend these three days in such a serene and authentic atmosphere. The forest and mountains surround the village of Kosuge, and I found it fantastic to be able to cycle on the forest trails, along the waterways. The public onsens, 5 minutes away from the Nipponia are very pleasant too. I would recommend staying at the Nipponia Kosuge for at least 2-3 nights, in order to fully experience this place and its unique environment. The food is delicious, and made from local products (vegetables, trout and game). Whether for breakfast or dinner it’s a an extremely pleasant moment. Everything is set up here to make you feel good, and attention is paid to every detail throughout your day. Nipponia is very easy to access from Tokyo: less than an hour by train to arrive from Tokyo Shinjuku Station to Otsuki, where a driver comes to meet you. I can only highly recommend this place. And I hope to be able to come back one day, for a different season, perhaps in spring. Thanks to the Nipponia team for their extreme kindness and for their passion in telling about the village and its traditions.

It's very rare that staying at a hotel/resort is the highlight of your trip abroad, but Nipponia was absolutely the most memorable experience for our Japan trip this year. The food, location and staff were all incredible, and the story behind Nipponia made us fall in love with Kosuge. Thank you so much for being so kind and welcoming through our stay, including providing vegetarian options, details about what to check out, a free entry to the local onsen and a tour of Kosuge even when it was raining. We will absolutely stay again.

The staff was really great. They made us feel really welcome and were super hospitable. They even gave us some great recommendations for things to do in nearby villages. The food was also incredible.

“Quiet mountain retreat where tradition meeat modern comfort.”

The place is a restored 150 year old building converted to house 4 rooms. Beautiful old wooden structure, nicely appointed to modern comfort standards. It is a quiet small village with dense forrest around. Staff is very friendly and does everything to help you out with answering questions. Dinner and breakfast were beautiful with local and seasonal produce. If you enjoy the blend of modern and traditional in a quiet mountain area, this is your place.

Beautifully renovated ooya, super large and comfortable rooms, the most delicious dinners I’ve had so far on this trip. The sincerity and graciousness of the staff and locals in showing us around their village.
